There's no mistaking this hotel's '60s origins, though whitewashed facades and glass-paneled balconies have kept it looking fresh and contemporary. Renovated in 2012, the lobby is modern and airy, with clean lines, polished stone floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe the place with sunlight. Downstairs, a grand piano adds a touch of class, and beyond it is an inner courtyard arranged in a beach scene of sand, pebbles, and palm trees. The main restaurant and bar are also found on this lower level. Both open to spacious alfresco terraces cooled by sea breezes. The seven-floor property is set in six acres of well-tended gardens -- brimming with numerous trees, colorful flowers, and subtropical plants -- which slope down to a manmade beach with lovely clean waters. While not bursting with character, the Hipotels Eurotel Punta Rotja is clean, relaxing, and friendly, attracting an even mix of couples and families from around Europe.

The hotel is located in the largely residential and upmarket neighborhood of Costa de los Pinos, on the east coast of Majorca. Its grounds overlook a pretty bay and are surrounded by lush forests, creating a secluded, peaceful, and pine-scented environment. While there's not much nightlife within walking distance besides a couple of restaurants, the livelier towns of Cala Millor and Cala Bona are both within 10 minutes' drive. The Costa dels Pins shingle beach is about 15 minutes on foot, and also has a small bar. Golfers will find the 9-hole Son Servera Golf Club within walking distance, and several more courses within a short drive. Palma de Mallorca Airport can be reached in just under an hour by car.

The hotel has 203 spacious rooms, all of which are decorated in a modern style with wood-laminate floors, minimalist furniture, and a palette of beige and brown; the result is smart and light but lacks coziness. Twin beds are pushed together to make a double bed. All rooms open to long furnished balconies, many have lovely views over the forest and sea beyond (though some sea views are partial and lower-level mountain view rooms overlook scrubland). Rooms are air-conditioned and come with minibars, 32-inch flat-screen TVs (with a few English channels), and free and decent Wi-Fi. Suites add separate lounges with larger TVs and sofas. Tiled bathrooms have marble tops and shower/tub combos. Wall-mounted hairdryers, robes, and slippers come standard.

The features are the main draw for most guests at the hotel. A buffet breakfast of hot and cold items is served in the main spacious and airy restaurant which opens to a large alfresco terrace. Breakfast is not included in the room rate. Buffet dinners with live cooking stations are also offered here, together with a children's menu. A la carte dining is available at the La Cabana restaurant, surrounded by gardens with bay views. Entertainment is put on most evenings, though quality can vary. Set on two levels with a rock waterfall between, the main pool has a shallow entry point on one end, as well as nearby splash pool for kids. A bright indoor pool overlooks the hotel gardens. A manmade beach also has loungers and a jetty for direct access to the sea. 

The spa provides an additional indoor saltwater pool with water jets, plus a sauna, 14 treatment rooms (with a huge list of treatments), and whirlpool tub. A kids' club (for 4- to 12-year-olds) runs over the summer months, and a playground is open year-round. Tennis fans will find four courts, and there's also bikes available for exploring the surrounding woodland. Four event rooms are available for rent and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
