Mon Port Hotel & Spa

Marked by a traditional windmill with blades tipped in the colors of the Majorcan flag, it's hard to miss the entrance to the Mon Port Hotel & Spa. A stone arch doorway with swirly wrought iron gates lead into bright and open gardens brimming with mature palms, colorful flowers, and other subtropical flora. The vibe is instantly like stepping into a small, secluded village with a sunny and tranquil atmosphere. A terra-cotta tile patio extends into the reception area, where exposed beams, ornate chandeliers, and elegant furniture give the feel of a classy country house. This complex, however, was only built in 2002 and is composed of six, three-floor accommodation blocks and one main building that houses the restaurant and spa. Hacienda-style architecture adds to its timeless, countryside quality, while in the center of it all is a lovely three-tiered swimming pool surrounded by sun terrace and tidy lawns. The family-run hotel shares some facilities with the neighboring sister property La Pergola, though the Mon Port tends to attract slightly higher spenders and leans more toward vacationing couples  -- though expect plenty of families with kids over school holidays. 

The hotel is located in a peaceful and mostly residential neighborhood on the north outskirts of Port d’Andrax. Close to the western tip of Majorca, this picturesque bay is particularly popular with the yacht set (featuring an impressive marina), with the surrounding mountainside scattered with upscale vacation homes. There’s very little in the immediate area surrounding the property and no decent beach within walking distance, though the small, pebbly Cala Fonoll is a 10-minute walk. The La Vela yacht club and a few marina-front restaurants are also less than five minutes away on foot, while the buzzy resort center on the other side of the bay, offering more bars and eateries, is 15 minutes. For a decent stretch of sand, neighboring Camp de Mar or Sant Elm are 10 to 20 minutes away by car. The island capital Palma is roughly a 40-minute drive, with Palma de Majorca Airport a little farther.

The 147 guest rooms break down into singles, doubles junior suites, and suites, plus Superior and Premium categories. Interiors have a similar look — Mediterranean-style decor that combines terra-cotta tile floors, natural wood furnishings, and wrought iron detailing. Many of the suites also have more upscale touches such as original murals, antique-style seating, and chandeliers. All rooms open to furnished terraces or balconies, with many upper-levels treated to lovely mountain panoramas. Standard rooms tend to be lower-level overlooking the pool or gardens.

All units come with 32-inch TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and well-stocked minibars, plus free digital safes. Upgrade perks include Nespresso machines and welcome items such as fresh fruit (or chilled Cava and chocolate in Premium rooms and Suites). Wi-Fi is free throughout and generally fast and reliable. Traditionally-tiled bathrooms all include shower/tub combos, waffle bathrobes, generic toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers (that are a little on the weak side). Rose petals are provided for romantic bath moments, while Suites add separate whirlpool tubs. 

A grand-yet-rustic feel continues in the main restaurant, which opens in the morning for a breakfast buffet with bean-to-cup coffee and eggs cooked to order. There's also a range of Majorcan dishes, cold cuts and cheeses, and freshly-squeezed orange juice is available. Breakfast is always included in the rate. The restaurant also opens for dinner, offering an a la carte menu with an emphasis on grilled meats and seafood; it's not cheap but quality is high and there's a covered terrace for alfresco dining. Room service is available until late in the evening. There's also a poolside bar that serves a lunchtime menu of light meals and snacks, plus a lobby bar offers evening drinks in an elegant atmosphere.  

The hotel spa is a real highlight, with an 18-step fitness circuit that includes three experience showers, two whirlpool tubs, sauna, steam room, ice fountain, and a heated indoor pool. Entry is free for guests, and there are six cabins for a range of treatments for an extra charge. The outside pool also impresses, with three spacious tiers of varying depths, surrounded by plentiful loungers and a splash pool for kids. The hotel also has a well-equipped gym and shares a tennis court, kids’ club (for four-year-olds and up) and free parking with neighboring sister hotel La Pergola. Wi-Fi is free of charge throughout the complex.
