Bottom Line

The Predi Son Jaumell is an upscale property occupying a restored farmhouse, set in a secluded rural valley a seven-minute drive from Capdepera. One of the biggest draws at the hotel is its Michelin-starred restaurant, though guests also rave about the less formal brasserie eatery, which serves a great buffet breakfast. The 24 rooms are elegant and airy, with exposed wooden rafters and features from the building’s old life as a farmhouse. Free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, espresso machines, and robes come standard, but not all have furnished terraces. An outdoor pool is a pleasant spot, but there are no spa or gym facilities. Guests looking for a similarly rural getaway with views of the ocean might want to check out the Hotel Can Simoneta.

Predi Son Jaumell Hotel Rural

Scene

Beautifully restored farmhouse with views over the valleys and the Castell de Capdepera

The Predi Son Jaumell is a tastefully restored farmhouse made of rough-hewn limestone blocks with thick walls and tiny windows framed by sky-blue shutters. A secluded getaway, it's set in rambling grounds with stunning views over the surrounding valleys and the dramatic Castell de Capdepera. Inside, the hotel is well-maintained, modern, and airy, with blond-wood furniture, white walls adorned with lots of elegant artwork, neutral-tone seating with chevron throw pillows, hanging basket lamps, and oversized floor lanterns. While at the property, guests mostly lounge on the terrace by the pool, and both tourists and locals visit the Michelin-starred restaurant on-site. Features aren't extensive, but they're high-quality, attracting a crowd of mostly well-heeled couples.

Location

20 minutes’ walk from Capdepera, and seven-minute drive from the beach

The Predi Son Jaumell is isolated, if nothing else, set on the banks of a richly forested rural valley above the village of Capdepera, which is a 20-minute walk away, or six or seven minutes by car. There’s not much going on in the village, although it is home to the lovely Castell de Capdepera, and the town livens up as you approach the beach in Son Moll, which is 40 minutes away by foot, but only seven minutes by car. There's almost nothing in the immediate surrounds of the hotel, so visitors will likely want a car if they're going to do much exploration outside the hotel grounds. The city of Palma is over on the other side of the island, roughly an hour’s drive away, while transfers to Palma Mallorca Airport take 70 minutes by car, or three hours by public transport.

Rooms

Tastefully decorated rooms that marry old Mallorcan farmhouse features with bright, modern styling

The Predi Son Jaumell’s 24 rooms have been sensitively and elegantly restored in neutral tones, with sleek blond-wood furniture sitting alongside old limestone blocks and exposed wooden rafters. Each room is individually decorated, but expect sophisticated, minimalist decor like four-poster beds, wicker wall hangings, and tree-stump side tables. Junior Suites have a king-size bed, couch, and coffee table, as well as a desk that doubles as a stand for a flat-screen TV. Junior Deluxe Suites are in atmospheric vaulted stone chambers, while Grand Suites are much larger and add separate sitting rooms. Garden Suites have large terraces with stunning panoramic views over the valley, Capdepera, and the castle. Unfortunately, not all have furnished outdoor spaces, so it's worth confirming before if that's a necessity. Crisp bathrooms have deep soaking tubs with hydromassage jets, separate rainfall showers, Aveda toiletries, and hairdryers. Standard amenities include minibars, safes, flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines, kettles, air-conditioning, bathrobes, and free Wi-Fi.

Michelin-starred restaurant and pool terrace with great valley views

The big draw at the Predi Son Jaumell is the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, headed up by Andreu Genestra, who used to work at el Bulli, and now crafts intricate tasting menus out of fresh and seasonal Mallorcan ingredients -- many of which come from the property’s own kitchen garden, olive grove, and vineyard. There's also a less formal restaurant, which serves a buffet breakfast that guests rave over, consisting of local cheeses and charcuterie, freshly baked bread, homemade jam, and fresh-squeezed juices. The restaurant also puts on an a la carte lunch and dinner, serving tapas and larger dishes. Guests can have food and drinks from the restaurant out on the terrace, or by the pool. The pool is a bit small, though adequate for the hotel's size, and it has pleasant views over the valley. It's flanked on one side by a handful of white bean bags, and the other is lined by cushioned loungers under umbrellas and a row of canopied Bali beds. While the hotel doesn’t have a spa or a gym, guests can arrange for massages in their rooms, and there are bikes available to rent for free. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
