Portals Hills Boutique Hotel

Portals Nous, Calvia, Majorca (Mallorca)

Portals Hills is a luxury boutique hotel with a glamorous Miami vibe that attracts international yachters as well as the occasional celeb. At night, La Cabana poolside bar turns into an exclusive and genuinely hip nightspot with DJs, and there is also an on-site nightclub, Suite 32. The hotel's restaurant is excellent (and expensive) and has one of the longest wine lists on the island. Overall, Portals Hills is one of choicest hotels in Majorca for the see-and-be-seen set.

2

Melia South Beach

Magaluf, Calvia, Majorca (Mallorca)

This party-oriented hotel has a youthful and sexy vibe reminiscent of an Ibiza beach club. Unlike Portals Hills, which isn't within walking distance of a beach, ME Mallorca has direct beach access and an exclusive sun terrace. The 252 sleek rooms are well outfitted for pre-club preening, with plenty of mirrors, bathrobes and slippers, and luxury toiletries, plus extensive minibars, Bluetooth speakers, and available 24-hour room service. Suites add soaking tubs with sea views -- though most sea-facing rooms are prone to loud music until late. With its adult-only main pool (which has daybeds with butler service, for a fee) and all-day dance music, ME Mallorca is one of the chicest and hippest places to stay in the area. The neighboring (and practically adjoining) Nikki Beach Club provides an overspill of party vibe.

3

OD Port Portals

Portals Nous, Calvia, Majorca (Mallorca)

OD Port Portals is a smart, contemporary hotel with hip Balearic style -- it's not as luxurious as Portals Hills, and not right on the beach like ME Mallorca, but its clientele includes a trendy party crowd and its 77 smart rooms have upgrade perks that range from smart cars to iPads. A rooftop bar provides a stunning panoramic backdrop for regular events, while the restaurant offers late breakfast and weekend brunches. OD Port Portals' outdoor swimming pool features daybeds and waiter service.

4

Purohotel Palma

Palma de Mallorca, Majorca (Mallorca)

Of all the hotels on this list, the boutique Puro Hotel is the only one that sets forth a sense of Majorca's architectural and cultural heritage. The urbane 51-room property is housed in an 18th-century mansion and private annex in the upscale La Lonja area, with charming narrow streets and designer shopping, and near most Old Town attractions. The hotel's beach-club vibe and sleek decor are thoroughly modern, though. Free breakfast comes with chilled Cava, while in the evening the fusion restaurant transforms into a popular and buzzing cocktail bar with DJ sets. Puro Hotel only has a small plunge pool on its rooftop terrace, but offers free shuttle service to its Purobeach Palma beach club.

5

Eix Platja Daurada

Ca'n Picafort, Majorca (Mallorca)

The 310-room Hotel Platja Daurada is more family-friendly than the other hotels we've selected so far (though ME Mallorca does have a amily pool with separate splash pool). Its centered around a cluster of huge, beautiful pools, and is within a minute's walk -- over a wooden bridge -- to Ca'n Picafort Beach and a 10-minute walk to the center of town. Daily entertainment, crowds, organized cheer, and loud electronic dance music are constants throughout the day, and live music, shows, and dancing are fixtures at night. The overall vibe is busy, fun, and upscale, with plenty of sun and sand.

6

Seramar Luna Luna Park

El Arenal, Majorca (Mallorca)

The urban and touristy area of El Arenal, home to Hotel Luna-Luna Park Hotel, is not one of Majorca's finest areas. However, the nearby beach, entertainment, and nightlife make this group-friendly all-inclusive budget resort a convenient pick. It's the sort of place where people go for unlimited quantities of food and alcohol: the bar opens early, so it's not uncommon to see guests drinking poolside by mid-morning (one of the two pools features DJs and live music).

7

Apartamentos Deya

Santa Ponsa, Calvia, Majorca (Mallorca)

Apartamentos Deya is an unashamedly party-oriented budget hotel in the nightlife district of Santa Ponsa. Public spaces are often populated by guests in varying states of inebriation, with ebullience that can overspill into rowdiness. The property itself also inevitably suffers from wear and tear related to the overenthusiastic behavior of those staying there.  Its 178 apartments are largely identical and have all been modernized, though stains and scuffs are commonplace. The pool (due for refit in 2017) is large with a spacious terrace and cocktail bar. A second bar/nightclub is a popular venue for dancing, DJs, and risque events. Ultimately this property is cheap, cheerful, and understandably popular with party-loving young adults.
