Bottom Line

The adults-only THB Dos Playas is a relatively small, mid-range chain property situated within easy strolling distance of a sandy beach and the dining and low-key nightlife of Cala Ratjada. Its 90 rooms all received a fresh modern update in 2016, and amenities include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and safes. On-site facilities are basically limited to one outdoor pool, a buffet restaurant, and a bar; don't expect fitness or spa facilities. Buffet meals and non-premium drinks are covered with an all-inclusive plan. Despite the adults-only policy, clientele tend to be young adults, not couples looking for s romantic getaway without the kids; those travelers may prefer the nearby Son Moll Sentits Hotel, which is pricier, although it's also directly overlooking the beach.

THB Dos Playas

Scene

Relatively small all-inclusive chain hotel aimed at young adults

Functional is the first word to come to mind when describing the THB Dos Playas. In fact, there's very little to distinguish this chain property from the slew of other slightly tired, '70s-era hotels scattered around the island (although rooms here did get a revamp in 2016). For an all-inclusive resort in Cala Ratjada, THB Dos Playas is on the small side, clocking in at just 90 rooms. Accommodations are spread over just four floors in an L-shaped block that overlooks a modest pool terrace. While generally well-maintained, the public spaces are generally stuck in the last millennium, albeit with some cosmetic updates in the form of numerous beachscape artworks and modern seating. The property was once advertised as a family-friendly spot, but these days the hotel has an adults-only policy (18-plus) and it aims hard at the young adult crowd -- so expect some up-for-it party antics.

Location

A short stroll from the nearest beach with Cala Ratjada within walking distance

THB Dos Playas is located in the Majorcan resort town of Cala Ratjada, on the far eastern tip of the island. The nearest sandy beach is Cala Moll, a five-minute stroll away, which is also the start of the seafront promenade, dotted with bars and restaurants and stretching to the resort center. Around 10 minutes on foot is the buzzing Harbor District where most of the resort's dining and low-key nightlife is found. While this area generates a sleepy-fishing-village vibe off season, numbers swell in the summer months -- mostly with German vacationers -- and beaches sometimes feel a little crowded. The historic towns of Capdepera and Arta are a five- and 15-minute drive, respectively. The hotel, however, is situated quite a distance from the island's capital Palma and Palma de Mallorca Airport, taking up to an hour-and a-half by car.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with AC, flat-screen TVs, and balconies

The property's 90 guest rooms come in singles, doubles, and triples, all of which benefitted from an update in 2016. The result is bright modern interiors that combine wood-veneer flooring, white IKEA-esque furniture, and panoramic beachscape artworks. Windows let in plenty of natural light, and illumination also comes from adjustable reading lamps and back-lit headboards. All rooms extend out to balconies with patio seating, either overlooking the fairly quiet street or pool terrace.

In-room amenities are limited to flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and digital safes, plus all rooms have air-conditioning. White-tile bathrooms have also been modernized with walk-in showers and contemporary fixtures. Chain-brand toiletries and wall-mounted hairdryers are also on hand.

Features

Limited facilities including a courtyard swimming pool and buffet dining

There's not a huge amount in the way of facilities at the THB Dos Playas, though the basics are covered. The courtyard pool is just about large enough for a swim, though it can get a little crowded at high season and there can be a shortage of loungers. The pool's terrace connects directly to the bar, which has a pool table and a TV showing live sports. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served buffet-style in the bright, updated restaurant, offering a mix of cold and pre-cooked items and self-service drinks machines -- all covered by an all-inclusive plan. Premium drinks such as bottled wine and freshly-made cocktails are available for a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and laundry facilities are offered for an extra charge.
