Bottom Line

Boasting lovely views, the 315-room Hilton Kuching is an upper-middle-range hotel set along Sarawak River, right in the heart of the city. Rooms are largely contemporary and well-maintained, featuring carpeted floors, subdued decor, and quality amenities such as kettles, flat-screen TVs, and desks. However, some areas of the property are a bit dated and showing wear. On-site features consist of a mediocre outdoor pool, five dining options and a bar -- dinner at the Chinese restaurant and breakfast at the Waterfront Cafe are highlights -- modern fitness center, and 10 function venues. Additionally, an Executive Lounge offers perks such as free breakfast and refreshments. Note that Wi-Fi requires a fee expect for Hilton Honors members. Travelers who don't care about a pool may prefer the more stylish The Ranee Boutique Suites.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hilton Kuching

Scene

Mostly contemporary hotel with amazing views but some signs of age

Set along a riverfront promenade, the 13-story Hilton Kuching commands panoramic views of the city and the winding Sarawak River. The hotel’s central location -- within a short walk of restaurants, bars, and shops -- attracts a mixed crowd of tourists and business travelers. While rooms are largely contemporary and well-maintained, some public areas are on the old-fashioned side and showing their age. For example, the casual Waterfront Cafe has dated striped chairs, while the mediocre outdoor pool has a worn deck. On a less positive note, the hotel’s public areas, as well as 315 rooms and suites, are in an obvious need of refurbishment. Also on the downside, there are no spa or kids' club, and some guests have complained of cigarette smells in non-smoking units.
