Bottom Line

The mid-range 233-room Premier Inn Manchester City Centre Portland Street is the biggest Premier Inn chain hotel in Manchester. The renovated guest rooms, which range from Singles to Family Rooms that sleep up to four, are spacious, bright, and clean, and come with big flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, tea/coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel imposes a Quiet Time from late evening to early morning, and a novel “100 percent goodnight sleep guarantee,” meaning guests can request refunds if they lost a night's sleep due to a problem in the room. Compared with other three-pearl hotels in the vicinity, it’s hard to beat the price offered at the Premier Inn Manchester City Centre Portland Street, which offers steep discounts to those who book on its website.

Premier Inn Manchester City Centre – Portland Street

Scene

Fresh, clean, friendly, and somewhat funky chain hotel smack in the center of Manchester

The Premier Inn Manchester City Centre Portland Street is housed in a historic and attractive red-brick building in the center of Manchester. The hotel entrance is a simple doorway (the facade of the building is listed and protected as a historic site), which can be easily missed. On the other side of the door, the reception area is decorated with large photographs of city landmarks. The guest rooms and public spaces have been renovated, and are clean and bright, and tastefully decorated in a minimalist style. Compared with other Premier Inn chains, the trademark purple color scheme is significantly toned down here. The hotel is popular with couples and families, given the Family Rooms and free breakfasts for children under 16 -- not to mention the coloring packs -- and business travelers, who get perks if they open accounts.
