Premier Inn Manchester City Centre – Portland Street

Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, United Kingdom

The 233-room Premier Inn Manchester City Centre Portland Street is the biggest Premier Inn location in the city. The renovated guest rooms, which range from Singles to Family Rooms that sleep up to four, are spacious, bright, and clean, and come with big flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, tea/coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel imposes "Quiet Time" at night and a novel “100 percent goodnight sleep guarantee,” meaning guests can request refunds if they lost a night's sleep due to a problem in the room. Compared with other three-pearl hotels in the vicinity, it’s hard to beat the prices here (the hotel offers steep discounts to those who book on its website, as well as free breakfast for children younger than 16 and free Wi-Fi in the rooms and common areas).

2

Holiday Inn Express Manchester City Centre Arena

Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, United Kingdom

The 192-room Holiday Inn Express Manchester City Centre Arena is located near Manchester Arena and other attractions, restaurants, bars, and shops. Rooms are modern and clean, and come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and work desks. A free breakfast buffet with hot and cold items is served daily (at Premier Inn, breakfast is only free for guests under 16), plus guests get discounts at nearby restaurants. Hotel-wide Wi-Fi and daily newspapers are free, but Premier Inn Manchester City Centre Portland Street's rates are generally a bit lower.

3

Premier Inn Manchester City Centre (Deansgate Locks) Hotel

Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, United Kingdom

While our first two picks are located right in the city center, the 199-room Premier Inn Manchester City Centre is about a 15-minute walk away. Originally built for the Commonwealth Games in 2002, the property occupies a nondescript building surrounded by residential apartment blocks, retail outlets, and other hotels. A highway overpass is nearby, but the rooms, with double- and triple-glazed windows, are well insulated against outside noise. Still, guests have complained about noisy floors (due to bachelor and bachelorette parties) and pipes. Compared with other hotels in the area, the Premier Inn Manchester City Centre Deansgate offers competitive rates, especially for those who book directly. Plus up to two children under 16 can eat for free if accompanied by an adult who orders a full breakfast. But the slightly higher rates at our first two hotel picks might be worth it to travelers wanting to stay in the city center.

4

Le Ville Hotel

Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, United Kingdom

Le Ville Hotel is a budget property located on Canal Street in central Manchester, in the heart of the city’s Gay Village. This is also the center of the city’s vibrant party scene, making the hotel popular with party-goers -- noise from the nearby bars and clubs can be a disturbance, especially on weekends. The 24 guest rooms are simple, clean, bright and cheery -- but small. Standard Rooms are a bit larger than the Economy Rooms, which are on lower floors and get the least amount of light; plus, their windows can't be opened, which can make them especially uncomfortable in the summer. King Rooms are the largest, but they have only a bit more space. All rooms include electric kettles for tea and coffee, free Wi-Fi, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, and mood lighting. Even though Le Ville's rooms are the smallest among the hotels listed here, its location commands higher rates.
