The rough-hewn stone walls, impeccable landscaping, tinkling waterfalls, and freeform river that flows through the central courtyard all create a distinct feel of upscale intimacy. The decor deftly blends African-inspired accents, thatched-roof buildings, and liberal use of natural materials with glass and metal in a way that just works. The social scene here doesn’t revolve around a single space. Most guests are content to carve out their own area of the sizable property to relax for several hours or the whole day. Between the large pool and off-site private beach, there’s more than enough to keep children occupied. But, the reserved, elegant vibe feels better suited for couples and honeymooners.

The sprawling grounds are situated at the end of a quiet, dead-end street. The nearest main road is sparsely dotted with boutique hotels and guesthouses. There’s nothing of interest within walking distance, so guests will likely need to hail a taxi or rent a car to venture off-site. Five minutes in the car will bring travelers to the centers of tourist-centric Pereybere and Grand Baie for dozens of restaurants, shops, and tour operators. Both towns are also home to some of the most spectacular beaches in Mauritius. The hotel also provides free, hourly shuttle service to its own private beach approximately 20 minutes away. Mauritius’ major airport, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International (MRU), is reachable in 75 minutes. 

Contemporary, high-end materials adorn every square inch of the condo-style rooms. Stainless steel appliances, wide tile flooring, plush seating, and modern, aluminum light fixtures all provide a look and feel that’s a full step above Mauritius’ typical resorts. Every unit is spacious and well-appointed with all the comforts of home. The floor plans incorporate full kitchens, separate living and dining areas, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and wide private balconies overlooking the elaborate pool area. The long list of in-room amenities includes fast, free Wi-Fi, multiple flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and washer/dryers. Bathrooms are likewise spacious with upscale materials throughout. Master bathrooms offer double sinks, large soaking tubs, and rain showers. Secondary baths are more modest, and feature a combination washer/dryer. Hairdryers and soap are standard in every bathroom.

Features are as luxe as the rooms. At the restaurant, every table is placed beneath a private thatched-roof gazebo that appears to float on a glowing river of water. It’s a dramatic, upscale scene that's especially effective at night. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served a la carte, and room service is available. Meals are pricey, but the French/Mauritian cuisine is well-reviewed.

The outdoor pool is tucked neatly into the interior courtyard of the hotel, and the water abuts the first-floor patios. The tropical landscaping, thatched-roof buildings, and shimmering blue floor of the pool create an upscale aesthetic and distinct feeling of seclusion.

The spa is awash in Balinese-inspired accents including arched wood bridges, billowing canvas sails, and thatched roofs. It’s a modern, upscale space with a full list of massage and beauty treatments available.

The hotel’s private beach is situated on a slice of Trou aux Biches -- one of the most stunning beaches in Mauritius. It’s a postcard-worthy scene with calm, swimmable turquoise water that’s safe even for children. An oceanfront restaurant serves gourmet, seafood-centric dishes with a Mauritian flare. Reaching the beach requires a 20-minute shuttle ride. But, the hourly service is free for hotel guests.

Unlike most every other common area, the fitness room is dark and drab with only a handful of dated machines and free weights. Wi-Fi is fast and free throughout the property. Self-parking is free in a gated, staffed lot.
