Comfort Inn Downtown

Scene

Clean and functional, but ready for an update

Comfort Inn Downtown sits behind a massive parking structure. Inside, the hotel is clean with a small front desk in the lobby. There are small seating areas with clusters of leather and upholstered armchairs on carpeting, offering a place to sit with a soda from the nearby vending machines and not much else. The is also a breakfast area and basic meeting space.  A few lounge chairs are scattered around the rectangular rooftop pool and, though the pool area is generally nondescript, the view of the river can’t be beat.

Location

Prime downtown location within walking distance of the convention center and Beale Street

Placed in a neighborhood filled with office buildings, the Comfort Inn is right off Interstate 40 and across from the Mississippi River, only a short walk away from Mud Island River Park. The hotel is also a few blocks from the Memphis Cook Convention Center and a 10-minute walk to the Pyramid Arena, which is scheduled to host a massive Bass Pro Shop. Beale Street, the downtown area’s music and entertainment hub, is around a 20-minute walk southeast, or a trolley ride away. Memphis International Airport is just 15 minutes southeast as well.

Rooms

Large, clean, and comfortable with a bit of flair

Rooms are clean and fairly spacious, and the decor is slightly more sophisticated than the standard chain hotel fare. Along with flat-screen TVs, there are small kitchenettes with sinks, microwaves, and mini-fridges as well as coffeemakers. Bathrooms are basic and fairly bland with shower/tub combos; some also feature large wheelchair-accessible showers.

Features

Seasonal rooftop pool, small fitness center, and free breakfast

Along with the seasonal rooftop pool that’s decently sized but by no means huge, the Comfort Inn has a small fitness room that offers cardio equipment and a nautilus machine. Corporate travelers can avail themselves of the on-site meeting space and business center with a computer. Guests also have access to a free continental breakfast served in a dining area, while the parking garage is relatively cheap for downtown. Pets are not allowed.
