Bottom Line

Undergoing a major renovation in January 2015, the Days Inn
Miami International Airport lands a couple steps above other budget hotels in the
chain. Rooms are bright, clean, and come with coffeemakers -- some have views of the outdoor pool. Bonuses on-site include a huge sports bar and lounge,
game room, outdoor pool, and free airport shuttle, bringing this property up to par with
mid-range airport hotels, but at a more attractive price tag.

Scene

Uniform chain hotel with colorful sports bar

From the outside, this four-story Days Inn looks like the myriad of others in
the chain with its tan paint and standard covered
driveway. The lobby tries for the look of a swanky Miami lounge with a pair of black leather couches
and neon signs, but the vibe is offset by the budget-style reception desk and
odd dolphin mural on one wall. Maracas bar and lounge covers two floors and is
equipped with a number of Flat-Screen TVs as well as a large stage where there
is live music on the weekends and a steady crowd of sports fans and pool
sharks.

Location

Five minutes from airport, 20 minutes from beach

Situated two miles and less than a 10-minute drive from the
airport, the hotel is on 72nd Street near the 836
highway, giving it easy driving access to the Port of Miami and Miami Beach.
The surrounding area is not attractive for walking, but there are a number of
fast food restaurants within a 10-minute walk, such as Lola Cafe, across the street and three minutes away on foot. Probably the best view of planes landing and taking off is
from 72nd and 12th, about a five-minute walk from the hotel. Coral Gables is about
a 10-minute drive, Miami South Beach about 20 minutes, and the Port about 15 minutes.

Rooms

Bland, but all have a fridge and microwave

Like most Days Inn hotels, every
room here looks pretty much identical with pale peach paint, light
green bed coverings, and loudly patterned curtains. Rooms are large enough to drop a couple of suitcases into with space to walk around them. Each is equipped with mini-fridge, microwave, free (though spotty) Wi-Fi access, flat-screen
TV, iron, safe, and small coffeemaker. Bathrooms are basic with white tile
floors and shower/tub combos with curtains. They have hairdryers, ice buckets, and standard
issue Days Inn toiletries. Large windows let in natural light and some rooms overlook the pool.

Features

Nice lounge and bar, free shuttle, and Wi-Fi

Days Inn Miami International Airport offers free shuttles to and from
the airport, free (though spotty in places) Wi-Fi access, a full (but not free
or terribly inviting) breakfast buffet, and a cool, spacious sports bar and
lounge -- Maracas -- with wall-mounted TVs, pool tables, and live music with dancing on
certain nights. The hotel also has an outdoor pool and small fitness center -- both undergoing major renovation in January 2015 -- as well as an arcade room with more than a dozen video games. There is parking on-site, but it is subject to a daily fee.
