Bottom Line

The Odyssey of South Beach Hotel is a 27-room, mid-range boutique property in South Beach's Art Deco District. Right on Collins Avenue, the hotel is close to the action, a three-minute walk from Ocean Drive and a five-minute walk from the beach. This hotel lack serious amenities -- drinks and souvenirs are available in the lobby, there's seating on the porch, and a free continental breakfast, but that's about it. Rooms and suites, which were updated with the property's 2016 renovation, can be small, but they're clean and tasteful with petite "kitchenettes" (mini-fridges and sinks), flat-screen TVs with HBO, and free Wi-Fi. Bu comparison, the nearby Riviere South Beach Hotel offers similar fare, though suites there have more complete kitchenettes.

Odyssey of South Beach Hotel

Scene

Tasteful boutique hotel on Collins Avenue with an Art Deco exterior and a splashy lobby

The Odyssey of South Beach Hotel is a simple boutique property situated in a square, two-story building with a flat-white stucco facade. Navy awnings and subtle Art Deco details, like scalloped trim on the roof, give it a jaunty look. The property stepped up its game with a complete renovation, finished in early 2016. While not quite high-end -- laminate furniture and Marshall's-style decor are standard -- everything is tasteful and contemporary. The prime location may well be this hotel's very best feature, but the lobby is pretty nice too: Gray walls and a dark ceiling make for a chic backdrop where the molding and white pleather seating can pop. An elegant chandelier light welcomes guests near the entrance, and stairs and other details are finished with splashy iridescent mosaic tiling. While the hotel is only two stories, guests should note that there is no elevator. In addition to the great location, the hotel offers competitive rates and has rooms that can accommodate two to four guests, making this ideal for couples and groups of friends.

Rooms

Tasteful, renovated rooms and suites with small kitchenettes -- but tiny bathrooms

Renovated in early 2016, rooms here are simple and contemporary with a gentle boho-chic vibe. In most rooms, light gray walls are paired with fresh white molding and bare wood floors, while furniture is white laminate with silver hardware. The look is not high-end, per se, but it's fresh and tidy. Details like wavy mirrors and animal-print canvases serve as wall art. Bathrooms vary -- they're contemporary, usually with white walls and showers with mosaic tiled floors -- but they can be surprisingly tiny even in suites, with just enough room for small shower stalls, toilets, and sinks.

Rooms have individually controlled AC, "kitchenettes" with sinks and mini-fridges, plus electronic safes, irons and ironing boards, free individual toiletries, flat-screen TVs with cable and HBO, and free Wi-Fi. There's no coffee/tea service, but coffee and tea are offered for free in the hall. Rollaway beds are available, but cost an extra fee. Guests occasionally complain about noise from outside the hotel or hallways.

Rooms for two include the entry-level "Premium Standard Rooms," which are fairly small at just 150 square feet, while Deluxes measure 200 square feet, and King Studios 250 square feet. The One-Bedroom and Two-Bedroom Suites are designed to accommodate four guests and measure a nice 350 square feet.
