Bottom Line

The 18-room Viscay Hotel is a no-frills, mid-range property in the historic Art Deco district of South Beach, a quick one-block walk to the beach. Classically decorated rooms have flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges; suites offer kitchenettes and sitting areas. Some guests complain about the functional furnishings and dated decor in some rooms and common areas. Most ignore the plain interior designs in exchange for affordable prices and a central South Beach location. Another possibility may be The Fritz Hotel, located nearby. Wi-Fi and continental breakfast are both free.

Viscay Hotel

Scene

Small, budget Art Deco hotel

The Viscay Hotel provides a standard affordable vacation in the historic Art Deco district, one block from the beach and Ocean Drive, attracting mostly budget conscious couples. Built in 1941, the two-floor hotel was designed by architect Albert Anis. Interior furnishings are traditional and homey. The lobby is decorated in light wood furniture, flamingo paintings, potted palms, and an ornamental fireplace near the small front desk. There's no elevator. Antique wooden floors line the hallways, which are painted white and adorned with framed mirrors that look like windows. The lobby also has a concierge desk with information on Miami tours. Overall the atmosphere is breezy and relaxed, if lacking in polish for the common standard of South Beach.
