Bottom Line

The 516-room Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort is an expansive casino resort located in a rural area four miles outside of Mount Pleasant, Michigan. This southwestern themed resort has a big casino with slot machines and casino games along with a game room for kids, babysitting service, a large indoor pool with adjacent hot tub, and a spa. The rooms are spacious and pleasant, if a touch dated, though some include nice extras such as fireplaces and whirlpool soaking tubs. Some guests complain of lingering smoke smells, old slot machines, and private events taking over amenities such as the pool. The property tends to attract a senior crowd.

Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort

Scene

Sprawling, if a touch dated, resort and casino

The lobby of the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort is outfitted with a freestanding fireplace near the entryway, a southwestern-style rug, and a few pieces of Native American art. The grounds are fairly expansive and rooms are laid out in long, seven-story buildings with stone and wood construction. Sconce lighting, marble floors, and leather chairs throughout lend a higher-end atmosphere; the hotel pipes music throughout the halls and the sound of the gaming floor is prominent in the casino section (it can be heard from most of the restaurants). Retirees constitute a large percentage of the crowd, though the hotel does offer childcare services for young families.

Location

In a rural area about an eight-minute drive from Mount Pleasant

The hotel is situated on a rural road; a cornfield used to stand on the land before the resort was built. While there is a decent amount of traffic due to the casino, the area is quiet with little beyond the parking lot and grounds besides a few trailer buildings. Mount Pleasant, the nearest small town, is a four-mile drive directly west. The Freeland airport is a 40-mile drive from the property.

Rooms

Larger suites are especially spacious, with built-in whirlpool tubs; the overall decor feels a bit stuck in the '80s

The aesthetic here draws on the neutral tones of desert and southwestern landscapes; wall, carpets, furniture, and bedspreads stick to peach and earth colors, with the occasional deep red or brown accent. Furniture is not especially luxurious; nightstands, desks, and chest of drawers are made of light colored lacquered wood. All rooms have safes, mini-fridges, medium-sized flat-screen TVs, at least one armchair, coffeemakers, an adequate amount of vanity space, and hairdryers. Smaller rooms have shower/tub combos. Many of the larger suites have a whirlpool soaking tub with recessed lighting in the sleeping area, as well as a separate living room.

Features

Casino, spa, indoor pool with hot tubs, childcare options, game arcade, and conference rooms

Apart from the usual array of casino games and slot machines (which some guests have noted are on the older side) the hotel maintains a spa with an array of beauty as well as body services, a medium-size indoor pool (which some have noted to be on the colder side) with an adjacent hot tub, an extensive kids’ play area with non-violent video games and games like Skeeball, and a kids' club that offers babysitting services by the hour. The hotel maintains fairly extensive outdoor grounds as well, with a large water fountain and an outdoor fire pit.
