Camperio House Suites & Apartments

Scene

Historic building with design forward furnishings and a comfortable, convivial atmosphere

Set on a side street off one of Milan's busiest shopping thoroughfares, Camperio House Suites & Apartments occupies a former 16th century nobleman's residence and Benedictine monastery. Many of its architectural elements remain, including the interior courtyard and garden outside the front entrance, arcaded on three sides with columns of the Tuscan order and fashioned after an ancient Roman peristyle.

While not unattractive, the reception area is a bit cramped and could use a once-over for minor things, like stained industrial carpet and chipping paint. That said, the grand, spiral staircase with large tapestries adds a regal touch. The lobby incorporates modern decor, arranged below an impressive, old brick vaulted ceiling. Bright yellow tufted club sofas and ruby red velvet chairs with floral print pop against neutral tones on the walls and floor. Sconces and table lamps cast a soft glow. A sleek bar jazzes up the room and energizes the space, and there's an outdoor terrace with city views.

The restaurant is bright thanks to plenty of windows below the gleaming white tin ceiling. Cream walls play against dark wood chairs and tables with gold casters, and the curved breakfast bar is detailed with decorative molding and hardware.

The hotel attracts a range of guests -- from families to business travelers to couples -- seeking a warm property that exudes local character and is centrally located.

Rooms

Tailored with luxe touches like marble baths and Nespresso machines

Camperio House Suites & Apartments's elegant, very-Italian rooms are variations on the same theme: bold, wide striped wallpaper, high-quality furniture, slipcovered seating, and lavish, marble bathrooms. Palettes range from bright and fresh to dark and dapper, where ivory is accented with mango, or deep hunter green is paired with an ebony backdrop. Some units have polished hardwood floors while others are covered in wall-to-wall carpeting. Larger apartment-style suites have similar decor. There are compact one-wall kitchens with flat-top burners, bedrooms and living areas separated with double pocket doors, and tubs in bathrooms. Some corner rooms have balconies with ivy tumbling over the sides. All rooms are equipped with Nespresso machines, flat-screen TVs, kettles, safes, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and free coffee, tea, and water.

The Zen-like bathrooms are sheathed in gray and green marble, and have walk-in rainfall showers, heated towel racks, baskets of plentiful luxurious bath products, slippers, and combination bidet-toilets. Street-facing quarters are quiet, as are those that look out to the interior courtyard.
