Bottom Line

The 75-room Hotel Silver is an upscale property located a 20-minute drive from central Milan and an eight-minute drive to the local trade fair and exhibition center. Rooms are stylish with contemporary bathrooms and range from pleasant Standard Rooms to ornate Suites with whirlpool soaking tubs. The property includes a restaurant for all-day dining, a cozy bar, and a fitness center. An outdoor terrace with lots of tables and chairs gives another appealing common space. Nice freebies include buffet breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking. The hotel also provides a free shuttle on the hour to a metro station, though the location is best suited to travelers with cars. For a property right in Milan's business district, travelers may prefer the Four Points by Sheraton Milan Center, which also has eight meeting rooms.

Hotel Silver

Scene

Tasteful contemporary hotel catering to business travelers

Hotel Silver has an unassuming, rosy-hued stucco exterior, and the porte cochere at the hotel entrance signals that many of the guests arriving here are doing so by car. Guests enter through glass doors trimmed in brass to a marble-floored lobby and curved wood reception desk. There are leather and wood trim tub chairs nearby. Hallways are painted cream, and an elevator or marble stair leads to the second-floor rooms. This inviting property has lots of spaces to relax, including the pretty outdoor terrace with deep-seat rattan chairs and coffee tables set beneath an awning. There's a breakfast room with rattan seating similar to that of the outdoor terrace. The clientele is largely a business crowd, drawn by the hotel's proximity to the local trade fair and exhibition center. Leisure travelers do stay here, but they often find that the location isn't ideal for sightseeing.

Location

Near the trade center, a 20-minute drive from central Milan

The Hotel Silver Milano is a 20-minute drive away from Milan's city center, in an isolated location. The hotel provides a free shuttle each hour to the Bisceglia underground, but most guests, especially tourists, will prefer having their own car. For business travelers, the Fiera Milano, a trade and exposition center, is an eight-minute drive from the hotel. Milan Central Railway Station is a 27-minute drive or a 65-minute train ride away. It's a 19-minute drive or a one-hour train ride to reach Santa Maria Delle Grazie. San Siro Stadium is a 12-minute drive or a 40-minute train ride. The Leonardo Da Vinci Museum of Science is a 19-minute drive or a 54-minute train ride. Guests can reach Milan's Museum of Archaeology in 22 minutes by car or one hour by train. Malpensa Airport is a 30-minute drive. The Orio al Serio Airport is a 50-minute drive, and Linate Airport is a 20-minute drive.

Rooms

Pleasant rooms, some more glamorous than others

Rooms at the Hotel Silver vary in style and size but all have pretty, contemporary bathrooms. Double Rooms, Junior Suites, and Suites are available either in the main building, or the side building. Standard Rooms are traditional, with honey-colored wood trim and red patterned bedding and matching drapery, and space is a bit tight. The Junior Suites have much more space, and have glossy wood floors, canopy beds, and a dramatic palette of deep ruby or yellow in drapery and bed skirts; some have coffered ceilings. Larger rooms have tables and chairs in a separate seating area, and the biggest rooms have terraces with rattan furniture. Some rooms have flocked, elaborate wallpapers, while others are painted a warm cream. Artwork includes reclining nude figures, usually placed above the beds. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and safes. Bathrooms are especially beautiful, tiled in iridescent mosaics in either earth tones or yellow with cream. Depending on the room category, bathrooms have stall showers, shower/tub combos, soaking tubs, or, in the case of the Suite Pool 30, a whirlpool tub. But all bathrooms have hairdryers, toiletries, and bidets.

Features

Restaurant and bar, relaxing outdoor terrace, and freebies including breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking

Hotel Silver has a range of features catering to its guests, mostly business clientele, but its missing a few amenities some guests may find essential. For dining, the hotel has an attractive restaurant and bar, The Silver Bistrot, which offers meals in an elegant setting with white tablecloths and cream-colored leather chairs. Its small bar is also attractive, with white leather bar stools set around a brass-hued curved bar with illuminated liquor bottles. Room service is also available 24 hours. A free breakfast (including five types of Italian breads) is either served in a dining room or to guest rooms. Gluten and lactose-free meals are available on request.

The hotel has a fitness center with a handful of cardio and weight training machines and a few stray free weights. But one surprise is the lack of business facilities. While there is free Wi-Fi throughout (and free newspapers in the common areas), there's no proper business center. The hotel does provide a computer workstation for guests' use, and a single meeting room is available for events.

The front desk is staffed 24 hours and includes a concierge. Dry cleaning, laundry, and a shoeshine are available for a fee. Luggage storage is available as well. The hotel is handicapped accessible, and children three and younger stay free here. Parking is free, and the hotel provides a free shuttle to the nearest metro station.
