Bottom Line

One of but a handful of hotels within the walls of Mont Saint-Michel, the Mouton Blanc maintains the same quaint, wood-joisted exterior as many of the other 15th-century inns on the island. Its rooms are a trifle more modern than some of the other hotels, while still retaining plenty of historic charm. As is the case with many of these highly visited hotels, the rooms may suffer from some wear and tear and have old carpeting and slightly scruffy bathrooms. Note that some of the rooms are in a small building annex directly next to a graveyard.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hotel Le Mouton Blanc

Scene

Housed in a 15th-century building appended by a few smaller structures

The front lobby’s low-ceilinged entryway is hung with copper pans and the restaurant has a similarly rustic feel, with terra-cotta floor tiles and rough hewn ceiling beams. Apart from these historical details, there aren't many decorations in the common areas. There are a few rooms in the main building; the rest are in an annex up a narrow street and next to a cemetery. As with all of the hotels on the island, the Mouton Blanc books up fast.

Location

Within the walls of Mont Saint-Michel, on the main street

The island of Mont Saint-Michel is less than half a square mile in surface area; as such, all of the hotels are quite close together. Le Mouton Blanc is located on the main street and, as is the case with all properties on the island, it can only be accessed via public shuttles that run from the parking lot on the mainland out to Mont Saint-Michel.

Rooms

Slightly worn but pleasant small rooms with low-beamed ceilings

The rooms at the Mouton Blanc have wood-paneled walls and exposed beams in low ceilings. Electrical outlets are few and far between and most of the rooms have wall-to-wall red carpet that has seen better days. Beds seem old. Some rooms can accommodate four people, and feature two levels joined by winding wooden staircases. Rooms have wall-mounted flat-screen TVs and little else in the way of decor, but they're adequate if you just want a place to lay your head at night.

Features

A restaurant that receives mixed reviews

The Mouton Blanc has a quaint, wood-joisted exterior and interiors with low ceilings and exposed dark-wood beams. There is little in the way of amenities here other than the restaurant, which receives mixed reviews from guests (as do most restaurants on Mont Saint-Michel). Visitors should take note of the hours, as like many restaurants on the island, it tends to open late and close early.
