Bottom Line

Les Terrasses Poulard is one of a number of no-frills inns available to tourists wishing to spend the night within the walls of Mont Saint-Michel. The 29 basic rooms here are spread across three separate buildings. Rooms are on the plain side, though some have charming historical touches such as decorative fireplaces and crown molding. The on-site restaurant receives better reviews than most on the island.

Les Terrasses Poulard

Scene

Charm of an old building; eclectic decor

The exterior of Les Terrasses Poulard has the same stone facade as many of the buildings on the island. The small lobby is an odd combination of industrial carpeting and low-beamed ceilings, and there's a large ship’s figurehead adorning the front desk. Some rooms are up multiple flights of stairs and there is no elevator. As with the other hotels on Mont Saint-Michel, rooms book up early. This hotel in particular happens to be especially popular with Japanese tourists.

Location

Within the walls of Mont Saint-Michel, spread out over several buildings

The property is situated within the town walls, at the beginning of the main street. As with all of the hotels on Mont Saint-Michel, guests who come by car have to park at a remote lot and take a shuttle to the base of the hill. Because of tourist traffic, the area can be pretty busy during the day but it's generally quiet at night.

Rooms

A combination of renovated rooms and slightly dingy, dated ones

The rooms here are a combination of historic charm and eclectic, dated decor. Most have dingy wall-to-wall red carpeting and the occasional framed poster. Beyond that, and the occasional historical feature such as a medieval chimney, rooms are fairly plain. A few have been updated and look slightly more modern. There's no air-conditioning, but rooms do come with flat-screen TVs and minibars. The beds are comfortable, and there are fewer complaints here of street noise reaching the rooms than in some other hotels on the island. Rooms in the annex buildings have particularly impressive views of the bay. The combination shower/bathtubs have handheld shower hoses rather than wall-mounted shower heads.

Features

Seafood restaurant and a small business center

There is a small business center with Internet access available to guests. The restaurant offers the seafood-heavy fare one would expect given its seaside location and has received generally positive reviews, unlike many other restaurants on the island. The breakfast buffet can get crowded, so arrive early if possible. Guests who want a view of the bay during their meal should book in advance.
