Bottom Line

The four-pearl Lodge at Whitefish Lake offers upscale accommodations and amenities in a spectacular setting on Whitefish Lake, and is located a short drive from downtown. Its 145 suites and traditional guest rooms are handsome and well-equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, fireplaces, and free Wi-Fi, and some have balconies. Highlights include an outdoor pool with lake views and an indoor pool, multiple on-site dining options, full-service spa, fitness center, and marina with equipment rental. There's also a concierge and free shuttles to the ski slopes, Whitefish, and to the airport. It can be pricey in peak season; travelers looking to spend less can consider nearby Grouse Mountain Lodge, which tends to have lower rates.

Lodge at Whitefish Lake

Scene

A rustic yet upscale lodge that stays busy year-round

This lodge stays busy with winter skiers, summertime visitors to Glacier National Park, and year-round conferences and other corporate and social events. The lodge has a cozy, rustic vibe but decor is upscale, with fine leather furniture, beautiful slate tile floors, and handsome wood trim. Stuffed animals, stone fireplaces, and vintage photos of the area set a casual ambiance, but there’s no mistaking the attention to high-end detail that makes this a distinctive destination. There are lots of places both inside and out to escape the crowds and enjoy the spectacular scenery in relative peace and quiet.

Location

On picturesque Whitefish Lake, a short drive to downtown Whitefish

The lodge is located on the shores of spectacular Whitefish Lake, near Viking Creek Wetland Preserve. It’s a quiet spot with nothing else around it, yet it’s only a four-minute drive or shuttle ride to the shops and restaurants in downtown Whitefish. The shuttle also runs seasonally to the ski area at Whitefish Mountain Resort (12 minutes) and Glacier Park International Airport (21 minutes). It’s about a 35-minute drive to the entrance of Glacier National Park, and 30 minutes to Kalispell’s airport by car.

Rooms

Well-equipped studio-style suites and handsome guest rooms, some with balconies

Several condos and cabins are part of the lodge complex, but most accommodations are in the Main and Viking Lodges that are connected via a sky bridge. Main Lodge units are spacious, studio-style suites with equipped kitchenettes that include wet bars. Viking Lodge units are more like classic hotel rooms, with mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. All units have gas fireplaces, and pine trim and furniture accented by pillows, bed throws, and other fabrics in striking green and red hues. There's also flat-screen TVs, snacks for purchase, safes, robes, and free Wi-Fi.

Bathrooms are more upscale than the casual, rustic lodge elegance in the bedrooms, with black granite vanities (some have twin sinks) and striking slate tile walls and floors. They come equipped with walk-in showers, hairdryers, and toiletries. Main Lodge units add separate soaking tubs. Suites in the Main Lodge have small balconies with lake or woods views. The Viking Lodge rooms offer similar views but no balconies.
