- Central Pacific Grove location within walking distance of the beach
- Many of the area's most popular sites and tourist attractions are a short drive away
- Just 21 rooms makes for a romantic, intimate vibe
- All rooms have (often small) updated bathrooms and flat-screen TVs
- Some rooms have whirlpool tubs and/or gas fireplaces
- Free parking and Wi-Fi
- No air conditioning
- Very few amenities; no restaurant or gym
Sunset Inn has just 21 clean and comfortable rooms in a enviable location just a few miles or fewer from some of central California's most popular towns and attractions. The property has the feeling of a basic yet well-maintained motel rather than an inn and consists of a number of identical, separate buildings. The location is quiet and convenient, but the property has very few features (no restaurant, gym, or spa).

Oyster Hotel Review
Simple and straightforward with a homey feel and few frills
With the feeling of an well-maintained motel, the Sunset Inn offers 21 rooms and a friendly environment with a great location for exploring the central California coast. Decor is basic and for the most part uninteresting in the public spaces, though a bit more cozy in the rooms. With so few on-site amenities, it's not surprising that this hotel largely attracts budget-minded couples who prefer a convenient location to upscale rooms.
A location near the beach
On the Monterey Bay Peninsula and just a short walk from Asilomar Beach, Sunset Beach's location is its main selling point. It's located in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by houses and other small inns but just two miles away is Cannery Row, a lively strip of shops and restaurants occupying former sardine factories. Its less than four miles from Monterey, which is chock-full of shopping, dining, and art galleries, and is a must-see spot on the central California coast. Monterey Bay Aquarium, regarded as one of the best aquariums in the nation, is also a short drive from the hotel. A bit further is Carmel-by-the-Sea and Pebble Beach and its famous golf course. Asilomar Beach is just a tenth of a mile away and a popular spot for dog walking and cycling.
21 clean and comfortable rooms lack air-conditioning
Rooms at The Sunset Inn are cozy and comfortable, and decorated to compliment the surrounding California coast: Picture plantation shutters, hardwood floors and a color palate that's primarily neutral. Some rooms have gas fireplaces or a whirlpool bath built for two. Standard in-room amenities include coffeemakers, hair dryers, bath products, and flat-screen TVs. There's no air conditioning in the rooms, but windows do open to let in a breeze.
With its location as its main selling point, there's little in the way of extras.
At Pacific Grove, the location is the main selling point and as such, there's not many extra hotel amenities to speak of. The property offers free on-site parking and free Wi-Fi, and the owner of the hotel -- who also mans the front desk -- is a wealth of information about local activities and area attractions. Though the hotel primarily attracts tourists exploring the central California coast, those with business to conduct appreciate the free business services such as fax, e-mail, and printing.
