Regency Rambla Design Apart Hotel

The Regency Rambla Design Apart Hotel is an all-suite and apartment-style hotel that opened in 2011 with the intention of being an extended-stay property, though many guests stay just one or two nights. The angular facade features off-white accents and a block of dark windows that lend the hotel a minimalistic, modern vibe that extends to the interiors. Reception mimics the same general color scheme of rooms: neutral whites and grays with chrome and red accents. The streamlined look reflects the kind of straightforward efficiency that this property provides. Common spaces are limited -- there's a velvety couch near the front desk, but no real lobby -- so guests spend most of their time in their rooms. Business guests and families are particularly drawn here for the large, well-equipped rooms. 

This hotel is situated in a fairly residential area in Montevideo, between downtown and the airport. It's right across from the beach, which is separated from the hotel by the four lanes of a roadway that runs parallel to the water. From the hotel, it's about a 15-minute walk to Carrasco's main drag, host to a handful of restaurants and shops, and to the Sofitel Casino. Carrasco International Airport is about a 15-minute drive and downtown Montevideo is about a 20-minute drive. 

The hotel's 30 studios and apartments are spacious with clean, modern decor. Wood laminate floors, white and gray walls, and black furniture with chrome accents offer a minimalistic look that verges on stark, but is made homier by details like natural wood bed-frames and velvety red accent pillows. Bathrooms are roomy and modern with white and gray tiling and translucent sinks. Most rooms have private balconies or terraces with sitting areas.

All suites and apartments have nicely equipped kitchenettes, with sinks, minibars, microwaves, tableware, and electric kettles, though there's no burners for cooking. Air-conditioning, safes, work desks with comfortable desk chairs, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi are also standard in all units. Bathrooms have free individual toiletries, hairdryers, bidets and toilets, and may include small walk-in showers or combination shower/tubs. 

Even the smallest Executive Apartment measures just over 375 square feet and has room for four guests, while the largest three-room Family Apartment can accommodate five and has nearly 700 square feet of space, including a living room. One-third of the rooms face the water; the rest face the back garden.

Like many apartment-style hotels, this one has limited extra property features -- there's no full-service restaurant, bar, or gym, for example. But there's a little no-nonsense cafeteria-like dining area where a basic continental breakfast is served daily, free of charge. Cold items like bread, cereal, and pastries are standard. The main other feature is the outdoor lap pool with mosaic tiling -- it's pretty small, though, with only two lounge chairs on the surrounding patio. 

The front desk is open 24-hours and the hotel can arrange airport transfers or laundry service. The hotel offers free bikes to borrow as well as towels, umbrellas, and chairs for the nearby beach. Wi-Fi and parking are free. Loaner cribs are available for young kids, and pets are allowed for an extra fee.
