The 210-room Embassy
Suites by Hilton Montreal is an upper-middle-range hotel conveniently located in the city center and just a
five-minute walk to Old Montreal. Studios and suites
are spacious and swanky, equipped with kitchenettes or full
kitchens and modern comforts like whirlpool tubs and
42-inch flat-screen TVs. But in-room Wi-Fi incurs a fee, though it's free for Hilton HHonors members. Some suites also have separate living areas with pullout sofas, dining tables, and fireplaces. The hotel offers a free made-to-order breakfast,
but the small dining room can only accommodate a limited number,
so a wait is often necessary. Other on-site features include a
trendy bar and
restaurant, fitness room, and business center. For something with more features, travelers might want to check out the Hilton Garden Inn Montreal Centre-Ville, which offers an inoor rooftop saltwater pool, hot tub,
and outdoor terrace.
Scene
Chain hotel with modern, light-filled interiors
Embassy
Suites by Hilton Montreal occupies a drab-looking 21-floor tower
block on a busy downtown street. The interiors are sleek,
with a clean and uncluttered look thanks to dark tiled floors,
high ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling windows, which let in lots of
natural light. Contemporary leather armchairs and lamps are arranged
into cozy seating areas, and three wood-paneled reception desks are a
more convivial alternative to the traditional reception counter. The
hotel can get quite congested during peak vacation times and the breakfast area can get especially crowded in the
mornings, often requiring a wait. The hotel's two elevators also cause long wait times and don't seem to
be sufficient to handle so many guests. Spacious suites and studios as well as family-friendly services make this property popular with
families, but many
vacationing couples and business travelers also choose to stay here.
Location
Located in the heart of Montreal's downtown area
Embassy
Suites by Hilton Montreal is located in the downtown area, just a
five-minute walk to Old Montreal and its best known landmark, the Notre-Dame Basilica. The Montreal Convention Center is directly
across the street from the hotel, while the nearest metro stop is
Station Place d'Armes, a two-minute walk away. Many shops,
restaurants, cafes, and bars can be found in the immediate
vicinity.- One-minute walk to the Montreal Convention Center
Rooms
Spacious studios and suites with kitchen facilities
The
studios and suites at Embassy Suites by Hilton Montreal are
particularly roomy, offering 350 to 1,200 square feet of floor space.
The modern decor features a neutral color palette of cream-colored
walls, black furniture, and gray curtains, carpeting, and upholstery,
as well as soft gray tiling in the kitchen areas. Tasteful contemporary-style
artwork decorates the walls, while desk lamps provide soft
mood lighting. Bedrooms have king- or queen-size beds, and all studios and suites have kitchen facilities (kitchenettes in the
studios and full kitchens in the suites) equipped with microwave
ovens, fridges, and Cuisinart coffeemakers. Suites have full-size fridges as well as stoves and six-person dining
tables. Despite being so well-equipped, guests have complained about
the lack of silverware, dishes, or pots and pans. Suites have separate open-concept living rooms with fireplaces and pullout sofas that can sleep
two extra people. Bathrooms in most rooms feature marble vanities and whirlpool bathtubs
with showerheads, while suites add separate showers (though these are a bit cramped). All rooms are decked out with 42-inch
flat-screen TVs, digital music players, work desks with ergonomic
chairs, and in-room Wi-Fi (which is an extra fee, but free for Hilton
HHonors members).
Features
On-site bar and restaurant, fitness center, and freebies including cooked-to-order breakfast and evening drinks
Unlike many hotels with studio and suite units, this property has a fair amount of on-site features to offer guests, especially when it comes to dining. The hotel's free cooked-to-order breakfast is popular with guests, and as a result the breakfast service can get very busy, often necessitating long waits during peak times. In the evenings, guests can enjoy two free drinks accompanied by appetizers during the manager's reception. The trendy restaurant and bar in the lobby area is open throughout the day, and has an outdoor terrace for alfresco dining during the summer months. There's also a fitness center equipped with cardiovascular and strength training equipment. Business travelers are catered to with a 600-square-foot meeting room that can accommodate 30 to 70 guests, as well as a business center. A range of family-friendly features are also offered, like a babysitting service, children's menu, cribs, high chairs, and playpens. Parking in the hotel's underground parking garage incurs a pricey daily fee. The shuttle bus from the airport is free. Wi-Fi is free in public areas, but incurs an extra charge for in-room use. (It's free for Hilton HHonors members, the hotel's loyalty club that's free to join.)
