Bottom Line

The Palmeraie Village Residence is part of Palmeraie Resorts, a huge complex of hotels centered around a championship golf course just outside of the Medina in Marrakech's palm grove district. Of the many hotels and facilities clustered within the complex, the Village Residence is billed as a family-friendly option due to its 143 large apartments and 23 villas, all with kitchens and balconies or terraces. This upscale property has a huge outdoor pool, but travelers should note that most of the amenities available on the sprawling grounds are actually at the other hotels, and it's a hike to many of them. The Village has one of its own restaurants, but the casual fare won't impress anyone coming to Morocco to indulge in the country's fantastic cuisine. Also, apartments don't have Wi-Fi.

Palmeraie Village Residence

Scene

Moroccan-themed apartments and traditional interiors, with Atlas Mountain views around a golf course

Built in 2007, Palmeraie Village Residence is one of the newer sections of the larger Palmeraie Resorts complex, which centers around a 27-hole golf course that's considered among the most scenic in Marrakech. Snow-capped Atlas Mountain views are visible from the course, and from balconies in the Moroccan-themed apartments, which are scattered along with luxe villas across several acres of pleasant gardens. Clay-colored stone pathways lined with shrubbery wind throughout the grounds, with scraggly palms, leafy trees, and flowering bushes lending a bit of wild contrast to the manicured golf course. Inside the main building is a lobby covered in archetypal Moroccan tile work, along with a richly carved wooden ceiling, colored-glass lanterns, and bright red chairs upon red rugs. The restaurant offers a uniquely Moroccan setting, a round room with a domed metal ceiling and wrought-iron windows. Bright green, patio-style furnishings are also available on a large brick terrace, its spaciousness suited to the families with children who tend to stay here.

Location

Vast private resort outside of the Medina

The Palmeraie Golf Palace & Resort sits in a quiet area surrounded by other hotels, with nothing within walking distance outside the resort itself. The historic, 11th-century Medina is about a 20-minute drive, and is an UNESCO world heritage sight and a major tourist attraction. It's packed with cafes, hidden gardens, palaces, mosques, and shops; expect maze-like streets and souks with vendors selling traditional crafts. Marrakech Menara International Airport is 25 to 30 minutes from the hotel.

I see conflicting statements about the "free shuttle" in TA comments -- some guests told there was one, then on arrival were told by hotel staff to hire a taxi to the city. SA

Rooms

Cozy apartments with traditional touches, beautiful stonework, and full kitchens

Options include apartments and more luxe villas at the edge of the golf course. Apartments are cozy and combine contemporary decor with some Moroccan flair. Carved wooden ceilings, heavy wood tables, and stone tile floors mix with less-exotic Western couches and chairs in neutral shades. Each air-conditioned unit has a living room with a fireplace and a TV (some are tube-style), as well as a private terrace or balcony with stone tiling and outdoor seating amid garden or Atlas Mountain views. Bedrooms can be cramped, and not all have their own TVs. The full kitchens have ovens, sleek stovetops, full-size refrigerators, coffeemakers, and cookware and utensils. Tiled bathrooms have bidets and shower/tub combos. Some guests have complained of various maintenance issues, such as with kitchen appliances and TVs. There is no Wi-Fi in apartments, only in villas.

Features

Outdoor pool, tennis courts, nearby golf course, and many shared amenities

Most of the amenities claimed by the Palmeraie Village Residence are actually located at other properties scattered around the massive resort. There are a large outdoor pool and sun deck here, with a kiddy pool, all surrounded by a manicured pond with fountains and plenty of lounge chairs. Most eateries are at neighboring hotels, but there is one casual restaurant/bar combo right beside the pool serving pizza, pasta, and the like. Apart from a pair of outdoor tennis courts at the Village Residence, most facilities are at other properties, including the 27-hole championship golf course, full-service spa with hammams, multi-purpose sports field, and paintball court. Several other themed restaurants, bars, and clubs with live DJs are within walking distance at other connected hotels. There is a free shuttle service within the complex. Parking is free.
