Riad Miski

This Riad Miski hotel was first opened in 2012 and the decor is traditional throughout, with splashes of vibrant jewel tones adding some pizzazz to the lovely common areas, which include a patio and terrace. The hotel is arranged around a pretty central courtyard and, given its location in the eastern end of the medina, provides an escape from the busy city outside. Guests are welcomed with warm tea, helping to set a relaxed tone for a stay here. The open-air courtyard has lots of nooks for reading or relaxing, and a secluded rooftop terrace offers shaded and sunny spots with loungers to take in the views of the surrounding medina. Given the romantic vibe and the size of the riad, it's no surprise that couples are the main guests. Even so, it's not uncommon for families with older children to pass through as well. 

The riad's location at the eastern end of the medina means that it's slightly farther away from some of the city’s main attractions. It’s around a 12-minute walk to the main square, Jemaa el-Fna, but only five minutes by car or cab. A little closer at hand is the Ben Youssef Mosque, which will take around nine minutes to reach on foot. There are all manner of cafes, restaurants, galleries, and other sights throughout the medina, as well as the city's famous souks, which are closer to the square. Menara Airport is a 20-minute cab ride from the hotel, as is the train station. Transfers can be arranged by contacting the hotel (for a fee). 

The hotel has six individually decorated rooms, ranging in size from Standard and Superior Doubles for two people, to Junior and Master Suites for up to four. Rooms are decorated with pale, natural shades throughout, with dark earthy tones and vibrant jewel colors in the linens, rugs, and throw pillows. Floors are wood, stone, or tile rendered in natural colors, with patterned rugs for comfort. Distinctive Moroccan touches come in carved doors and fireplaces in some units. There are no TVs -- not uncommon in the medina's riads -- and not all rooms have air-conditioning. Each has a view overlooking the central courtyard, which helps keeps them peaceful despite the medina location. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. Bathrooms continue the attractive aesthetic, with a mix of antique and contemporary fixtures. All include showers, toiletries, towels, and hairdryers, and the sexy marble accents in some are an especially nice touch.

This mid-range pick has a few decent features, including the lovely plant-lined rooftop terrace -- with small kitchen area and shaded patio -- which provides a secluded spot to take in the surrounding medina views. The central courtyard is bright and airy, with tables and chairs for relaxing with a book or enjoying a drink. The hotel offers a traditional Moroccan hammam plus a range of services, including massage and facials. Dining and drinking can be done in the restaurant, terraces, or bar, and the hotel offers local fare and international dishes. A cooked-to-order Moroccan breakfast is available each day with and this is included in the rates. Bear in mind that reservations are required for lunches and evening meals. Airport transfers can be arranged (for a fee). Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms, but doesn’t extend to all public areas.
