Bottom Line

The large, upscale Hilton Munich City is conveniently located next to Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn
station, which has fast connections to the city center and the
airport. Its 480 rooms are simply decorated and have minibars, flat-screen TVs, and coffee/tea facilities. And Executive Room guests enjoy extra perks
like free breakfast, free refreshments, and free Wi-Fi. Hilton HHonors members also receive free Wi-Fi; for other guests, it's only free in public areas. There are two
on-site restaurants, a
bar, and a cafe serving Starbucks coffee, plus a 24-hour fitness
center. But compared to other upscale hotels in Munich, the Hilton Munich City is
pricey. The centrally located NH Muenchen Deutscher Kaiser could offer a better value, with modern guest rooms
and a terrace with panoramic views, but it lacks the Hilton's array of dining and meeting venues.

Hilton Munich City

Scene

Upscale chain hotel with bland interiors, popular with business travelers

Hilton
Munich City is a large, five-story modern hotel occupying a glass and brick building on a busy main street. Buses and moderate traffic run along the road, and there are small Asian restaurants and a big shopping center near the property. The lobby is light-filled thanks to
the high ceilings and many oversized windows. The space is arranged
into several comfy seating areas made up of sofas in beige and maroon
tones, stylish contemporary lamps, and patterned rugs covering much of the parquet floor. The pebble-lined gray stone accent wall and framed black-and-white photography are nice touches, but the neon pink- and orange-lit columns are an odd addition. Other public
spaces are similarly spacious, while the uninspired hallways
are decorated in tones of cream, gray, and light blue. Catering to
business travelers, the hotel has many guests staying here for work
reasons, but there are many families and couples visiting the city on vacation who also choose this property.

Rooms

Spacious guest rooms well-equipped for business travelers

The
guest rooms at Hilton Munich City are spacious, with a minimum floor
space of 269 square feet, while the largest King Executive Suites offer 969 square
feet of space. The color palette is made up of soft tones of white,
beige, and gray, with beige wall-to-wall carpeting, matching beige
and cream curtains at the windows, light-colored furniture, white
walls, gray headboards, and crisp white linens on the beds. The large
windows open to views over the city, or overlook the hotel courtyard
or gardens. Work desks, desk lamps, and ergonomic chairs in rooms are
helpful for business travelers, and other handy room amenities
include electric kettles for coffee and tea, safes, and ironing facilities. Minibars are well-stocked with alcoholic and
non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. The compact bathrooms are decorated
in beige tones, and fitted with large mirrors and shower/tub combos. Peter Thomas Roth toiletries and modern hairdryers are provided.

All rooms have air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs, but free Wi-Fi is only available to Hilton HHonors members and select rooms, while others must pay an extra fee. Guests staying in the Executive Rooms
also enjoy free Wi-Fi, as well as access to the Executive Lounge
where breakfast and refreshments are free. The Executive Plus Rooms
have the added luxury extra of Bose sound systems. Interconnecting
rooms are available for families traveling together. The Executive
Rooms have a fresher feel, in contrast to the standard Hilton Guest Rooms, where past guests have complained of cracked tiles in
the bathrooms, peeling paints, and the smell of cigarette smoke in
nonsmoking rooms. Some have also complained of poor soundproofing
between the rooms, including the upper-category Executive Rooms. Suites enjoy separate seating and working areas and free bottled water; some also have kitchenettes.
