Hotel Laimer Hof

The hotel, a gabled, three-story structure set on a street corner in a residential neighborhood, is classified by the owners as a “Neo-Renaissance” villa. Its lobby is a casual, anachronistic mix of brick tiled floors, glass-paned windows reminiscent of Gothic German houses, and stuffed easy chairs. The ceiling molding is set with a collection of beer steins. What the hotel lacks in features -- and location, for those desiring the city center -- it makes up for in personal attention, which makes for a warm, inviting, and memorable atmosphere for guests. Visitors tend toward an older clientele seeking a reprieve from the city, as well as couples on honeymoon or romantic holiday. 

Nymphenburg Palace with its beautiful park, botanical garden, and multiple museums sits a couple of blocks away from the tree-lined street of the hotel -- about a five-minute walk. There are a number of good, if modest, restaurants within walking distance of the property; a nearby attraction is also the Hirschgarten, a beer hall touted as Bavaria's largest, which sits a 10-minute walk away. Munich International Airport is accessible via public transportation (one transfer, one hour, starting from the bus station a couple of blocks from the hotel), or a 40-minute drive. Downtown Munich is accessible via the tram at Romanplatz, two blocks away, with the total travel time about 20 minutes. 

The combination of low, wood-paneled ceilings, floral draw curtains, and rusty-red wall-to-wall carpeting gives a slightly dowdy look to these rooms, which are otherwise clean and well-kept. White walls keep things bright despite small windows; wrought iron beds provide a touch of elegance. All rooms are individually furnished, and have flat-screen TVs and fully stocked minibars. The hotel provides iPod docking stations, and CD/DVD players on request. Each Turret Room has a sofa bed, chest of drawers, and leather armchair. Family Rooms are available, as well. Bathrooms have tiny, plastic stall showers and hairdryers. 

There are few amenities at this small hotel, though there is a computer with Internet access and a printer for guest use along with free Wi-Fi throughout. The pleasant breakfast room has cushioned booths and stained glass windows, and sits adjacent to the lobby. Breakfast, while not included in the rate, includes organic bakery items. There's also a small garden area shaded by cherry trees, where guests can relax at tables and chairs. Limited free parking is available for those with cars. The hotel proprietors are a particular asset, always at the ready to provide suggestions and to offer assistance with directions and guest needs. Loaner bikes are available free of charge to guests.
