Bottom Line

The Aeolos Mykonos is a 28-room hotel perched hillside just over a half-mile from Mykonos Town center. The modern-Cycladic property is centered around the pool and garden area, ensuring pretty views from each of its bright white rooms. All rooms come with a private balcony or terrace and guests can take a dip in the outdoor pool or relax in the bubbling whirlpool. While there is a cute breakfast room and a bar that serves snacks and even room service, there is no full-service restaurant on-site -- meaning guests have to either make the trek up and down the hill or catch rides with the hotel's informal shuttle service.

Aeolos Mykonos Hotel

Scene

A relaxed, modern hotel where guests "enter as a stranger, leave as a friend"

Off of a main road, the Aeolos Mykonos Hotel is marked by humble signage spelling out the hotel's name above the entryway. The two-story, starkly white hotel with light blue and stone accents reflects a modern take on the traditional white and bright blue architecture the region is famous for. The outside grounds have intermittent green areas, stone walls and large, giraffe-spotted stone pathways. Designed around a simple, rectangular pool and modest garden area with a palm tree and flowers, the hotel's grid-like layout feels much like that of a small apartment complex.

The home-like vibe is fitting, since the Aeolos's owner makes it his (well-accomplished) mission to have every guest "enter as a stranger, [and] leave as a friend". The hotel lobby plays gentle music for guests to read or mingle to and the decor reflects a light beach theme. The color palette is pale, but fresh; seashell paintings hang on the walls; and comfy frosted mint furniture fills a corner of the room. Most of the remainder of Aeolos's decor is unbelievably white, with only occasional pops of silver from fixtures and touches of color from the flowers and furniture.

The hotel draws primarily couples, but it's well-suited for solo travelers as well.

Location

Quiet, hilltop location a half-mile from the town center

This location is suitable for travelers looking to stay outside of Mykonos Town (but not too far out) and who don't mind a 15-minute trek into town (uphill on the way back). It's even better for people who have a car as (unlike in town) there is plenty of parking. It's a quick drive from many nearby points of interest, including the Mykonos Maritime Museum, and both the main ferry port in Tourlos and the airport are a five-minute drive from the hotel. It's a five-minute drive to the closest beach, Megali Ammos, and a 10- to 15-minute drive to beaches on the south coast (including Psarou, Platis Gialos, Paradise, and Super Paradise).

Rooms

Spotless, simple white rooms overlooking the garden and pool

Rooms at Aeolos Mykonos Hotel are cool, spotless and very simply decorated. With elements of Scandinavian decor, the rooms have white tiled floors; straightforward white furniture (desks, bedside tables, luggage stands); woven straw-like headboards; interesting faux-sand sculpted in-wall; bedside light fixtures; and pops of color in the accompanying chairs. All of the spacious rooms come with a private (yet small) balcony or patio overlooking either the pool or garden area, as well as a TV and mini-fridge. Blue tiled bathrooms are basic and a bit small, but come with various toiletries; some have tub/shower combos.

Features

An attractive pool but no full restaurant

The hotel's main feature is its central outdoor pool, garden, and whirlpool area. The rectangular pool has an infinity edge and stone surround; it is surrounded by a cluster of white buildings, as well as sun chairs, cabana lounges, tables, and chairs (some shaded). Guests can also congregate inside the contemporary bar and snack area located next to the lobby. This hotel has free Wi-Fi (and a laptop in the lobby), a 24-hour reception and tours desk, a game room, massage and beauty treatments, and babysitting service. There are airport and port transfer services, and an unofficial "shuttle" service into town. While there is no restaurant, guests can start the day in the breakfast hall, an indoor dining area with breakfast buffet.
