The Yiannaki is a mid-range hotel with a welcoming vibe and quiet location within a five-minute walk of two beaches. The 45 rooms are basic but cheerful, outfitted in blue and white decor, with minibars and balconies that overlook the mountains or a large saltwater pool. The hotel's open-air restaurant and bar offers a daily free breakfast buffet and an evening a la carte menu of Greek cuisine. There are bars and restaurants within walking distance, and Mykonos Town is a 10-minute ride away via hotel shuttle or a bus that stops nearby. While the rates are reasonable, the hotel lacks water views and direct access to the beach. For some travelers, it may be worth paying more to stay at the Porto Mykonos Hotel, which is closer to the beach and has abundant gorgeous views of the Aegean.
Scene
Quiet hillside setting with a sun-drenched saltwater pool
Perched on an arid hillside, the Yiannaki Hotel has a typical Cypriot look of blue shutters contrasted with a traditional whitewashed facade. Inside the modest lobby, furnishings include white slipcovered sofas and chairs, light tile floors, and an aquarium. Two computers and a printer occupy a small corner business center, and postings of local tours and events cover one wall. Outside, a rectangular pool dominates a sunny flagstone patio, where thatched umbrellas shade modern rattan loungers. An adjacent restaurant with large picture windows is set with handsome teak chairs and crisp white tablecloths; the eatery has ample outdoor dining space on a stone terrace overlooking the pool. Throughout the property there's a relaxed vibe, and the friendly owner, Yiannis, receives frequent praise from guests. Fruit juice is offered to guests on arrival and honeymooners get wine and fruit. There's a heavy couples contingent here, thanks to the quiet setting, but low-key families and traveling friends tend to feel equally comfortable at the Yiannaki.
Location
Between Corfos and Ornos beaches, a 10-minute drive to Mykonos
The Yiannaki is on the western side of Mykonos, on a quiet street just off the main road that connects Mykonos Town and Agios Ioannis. Both Corfos Beach and family-friendly Ornos Beach are within a five-minute walk along a small private path. Also within a short walk are restaurants, bars, and a market, as well as a bus stop -- which is then a 10-minute trip into town. In Mykonos, there are interesting sights such as the whitewashed Paraportiani Church (the most-photographed church on the island) and the iconic 16th-century Mykonos windmills. Other attractions are situated away from Mykonos Town but within a short drive. The Hellenistic towers of Platis Gialos are a 10-minute drive from the hotel and the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani in Ano Mera is a 15- to 20-minute drive away. Mykonos Island National Airport is about a 10-minute drive from the hotel.
Rooms
Spotless, plainly styled rooms with balconies, minibars, and free Wi-Fi
Rooms at the Yiannaki are pristine and comfortable with bright natural light and the same simple charm found throughout the property. The basic decor has a coastal vibe and includes sand-toned tile floors, white bedding, and dated white furniture. Pops of turquoise in the patterned curtains and bed runners, as well as framed color photography of Mykonos, add interesting touches. Armoires have a good amount of storage space and hold safes, robes, and slippers. All rooms have furnished balconies that overlook the pool or mountains, but there are only distant, partial views of the water in some rooms. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs and minibars, but no tea- or coffee-making facilities. Bathrooms dimensions vary according to room type, but all are a bit outdated, with blue tile floors, large single sinks, and shower/tub combos. Oliva toiletries and wall-mounted hairdryers are provided. Wi-Fi is free and limited room service is available. Family Rooms are the largest option, each containing a double bed, pullout sofa, and large balcony accessed through French doors.
Features
Free breakfast buffet, a la carte restaurant, and saltwater pool
There aren't a ton of features at the Yiannaki Hotel, but there are enough to keep guests satisfied. First, all room rates include a free daily breakfast buffet consisting of a solid variety of hot and cold items. At sunset, the Aleka restaurant transforms into a candlelit dining spot serving well-reviewed Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. There's also a poolside bar serving drinks and light snacks throughout the day. The saltwater pool itself is a highlight of the property and is large enough for light lap swimming. The stone deck is filled with wicker loungers and umbrellas, plus a bench swing and covered seating near the bar. Perks for young guests include a sandy play area near the pool and a special welcome gift. The hotel has a tiny fitness room with just a few cardio machines and weights, as well as an adjacent sauna. Massages and some beauty treatments are available upon request. Parking and Wi-Fi are both free.
