Bottom Line

Myrtlewood Villas is a mid-range property with over 250 privately owned condos. Full-time residents live in the villas in addition to the families, couples, and groups who book shorter stays. One-, two-, and three-bedroom condos are available, and decor and furnishings vary based on ownership. Not all units come with free Wi-Fi. The hotel has two golf courses on-site as well as outdoor and indoor pools, but the indoor pool area is in need of a renovation. There’s no beach access, but Broadway at the Beach is less than a 10-minute drive away. Guests may want to compare rates with Regency Towers, which offers 120 privately owned condos that have nicer furnishings than average for the area

Myrtlewood Villas

Scene

Villa community with full-time residents and shorter-stay guests

With three separate communities -- Magnolia Place, Magnolia North, and Magnolia Pointe -- two golf-courses, and several outdoor pools, the grounds of Myrtlewood Villas are big enough for guests to get lost in. The registration building, a pale-yellow structure with a white porch railing, is located just inside the entrance, and it may be a good idea for guests to grab a map when they register. Trees and ponds add picturesque scenery to the grounds. Villa buildings vary -- some are pale yellow with red-brick bottom floors while others are made of gray and white bricks. The indoor pool area is in a barn-like structure with a peaked metal roof that is showing some rust, and the fitness center could benefit from some new equipment. The property's amenities are shared with the full-time residents and the vacationing families, groups, and couples that stay for shorter periods of time.

Privately owned condos with spacious balconies or patios

The property has one-, two- and three-bedroom privately owned condos. Furnishings and decor vary, but most condos have kitchens with refrigerators, microwaves, and ovens as well as multiple TVs with cable, washing machines, and dryers. The villas we looked at were spacious, with homey decor, ceiling fans, and convenient appliances including coffeemakers and toasters. Some condos offer free Wi-Fi, and all have DVD players with access to free DVDs to borrow. Patios and balconies are spacious, and some overlook the ponds or pools that dot the property.

Features

Several outdoor pools, indoor pool, whirlpool, lazy river, and children’s pool

Myrtlewood Villas has an indoor pool area with a separate children’s splash pool with an umbrella-style fountain at its center. There is also a small lazy river and a whirlpool inside, but the building is showing some wear and tear. There are several outdoor pools throughout the property, along with two shuffleboard courts and a volleyball court. Pavilions with wooden picnic benches and outdoor grills offer a place for guests to cook and dine outside. The property has a fitness center with a few exercise machines and hand weights, but guests complain the treadmills are outdated. Parking is free and there are loaner bikes available for guest use.
