The budget Windsurfer Hotel is conveniently located near the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and 2nd Avenue Pier, about a 10-minute walk to the Family Kingdom Amusement Park. Many of its 69 rooms, including Suites, have balconies with oceanfront views, and cable TV; some have whirlpool tubs. But rooms are dated -- tiles,
curtains, and furnishings could use an upgrade -- and some have a musty smell. There's an indoor/outdoor pool and whirlpool, as well as a small outdoor pool and children’s pool. Parking is free, but it can be difficult to find a space. Guests might want to compare rates with the Best Western Plus Grand Strand Inn & Suites, an upper-middle range property with a free breakfast buffet and outdoor barbecue area, that's about a six-minute drive south from the Windsurfer.
Scene
Beachfront hotel with pretty landscaping and views
The Windsurfer Hotel is split
among three separate buildings, including two shorter buildings and a taller
one with only one elevator. Inside, the front desk area is long and narrow without
much decor, except for a large painting of a beach. The hotel has a large pool that
stretches from a room with windowed walls to an outside fenced-in area. There’s
also a small children’s pool with a bright blue mushroom waterfall outside. Just
beyond the fence is a pretty grassy lawn with palm trees and blue-and-white
striped lounge chairs, where guests can sunbathe and take in the ocean views. The
Myrtle Beach Boardwalk cuts through the lawn and leads guests to the wooden
bridge that connects the property to the sandy beach.
Location
Oceanfront location on the same block as the 2nd Avenue Pier
The hotel has a good location just off
the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and within walking distance of several dining options including Starbucks and Krispy Kreme. It’s also near the 2nd Avenue
Pier, where visitors can go fishing or drink at the open-air bar. Both Broadway at the
Beach (another shopping and dining area) and Myrtle Beach International Airport
are within a 10-minute drive.
Rooms
Dated rooms, some with ocean-view balconies
Rooms at the Windsurfer Hotel are clean with
cream-colored walls. Blue-striped carpeting and blue floral curtains add
color to the space, but rooms are in need of some updates -- some rooms still have
bathrooms with old shower/tub combinations and retro pink tiles, tube-style TVs, and old lighting fixtures. Standard Rooms have mini-fridges, microwaves,
and coffeemakers, and Suites are available with kitchenettes that come with ovens and full-size refrigerators. There are some rooms with balconies that showcase beautiful
ocean views.
Features
Convenient beachfront location, indoor/outdoor pool, and indoor whirlpool
The best feature of the Windsurfer
Hotel is its location on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and beach. There’s a large
indoor/outdoor pool at the hotel, as well as an indoor whirlpool and an outdoor
children’s pool with a mushroom falls water feature. There’s also a separate outdoor pool and
lounge chairs for sunbathing on the lawn. Limited free parking is available, and in-room Wi-Fi is free.
