Bottom Line

Hyatt Place Mohegan Sun is a three-pearl option for travelers visiting the Mohegan Sun Casino, which is a five-minute drive away via the hotel's free shuttle. The hotel also offers a free hot breakfast buffet, the 24-hour Gallery Market, and a cafe and bar. The 176 simply designed rooms feature 42-inch flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and separate living rooms in studios. Most guests are here to gamble, but there are also an indoor pool and 24-hour gym. One meeting room is available and business services are provided, along with free parking. This is a less expensive option than the Mohegan Sun Casino Resort.

Hyatt Place Mohegan Sun

Scene

Modern chain hotel near a popular casino

The Hyatt Place Mohegan Sun draws guests who are looking to gamble, but want to pay cheaper nightly rates than those offered by the famous Mohegan Sun Casino Resort. A glass marquee sits above the entrance of this six-floor hotel that features a glass, brown, gray, and cream exterior. It’s common to find the hotel’s casino shuttle van parked outside the entrance. The circular front desk also serves as the counter for the Gallery bar and coffee shop. Brown leather furniture is placed by a glowing mantel, creating a modern look in the lobby. Red chairs around tables provide seating for breakfast diners -- which is a busy scene in the morning. Though most guests are tourists, business travelers do stay as well. Kids are welcome, but not especially catered to. For a hotel closer to the Mystic attractions, check rates at the Hilton Mystic

Free breakfast, Gallery Market for takeaway, and an indoor pool

Features at the Hyatt Place are typical of what's usually found in a chain hotel. Breakfast is provided at no additional charge in the a.m. Kitchen Skillet, a casual dining room designed in warm wood tones with bar seating, tables and chairs around flat-screen TVs, and patio seating. Additional tables and chairs are in the lobby, but breakfast service is known to be busy. The hot buffet consists of breakfast sandwiches, pastries, oatmeal, and fruit. A counter shared with the front desk has coffee, a bar menu -- including beer and wine -- and the Gallery Market for takeaway items. Meals are also available 24 hours with pick-up service though the Gallery menu, but prices are high.
