Bottom Line

Situated at the foot of Mt. St. Helena at the top of Napa Valley, the Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort is a charming mid-range retreat a block away from Calistoga’s main street. The location is a quiet and quaint one, with 60 rooms and suites that offer modern amenities and a range of features from kitchenettes to whirlpool tubs (though decor does vary and some rooms feel dated). The Baths at Roman Spa offer services using Calistoga mineral and geothermal water. There are two pools on-site -- one outdoors and one indoors. An outdoor picnic area has grills for guests to barbecue on and relax around. Just note that rooms at the Mount View Hotel & Spa are more stylish, often for only slightly higher prices.

Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort

Scene

A quaint resort with traditional decor

Located on a quiet residential block, the Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort is unassuming from its exterior to the simple rooms. The building has a Tuscan-style villa vibe with tiled copper-colored roofs and white paint. The lobby is decorated in an old-fashioned manner with tiled floors, oak wood furniture, a lovely fireplace, and a small front desk. There are plenty of trees and gardens on the property, giving guests a secluded feeling. The vibe is casual, comfortable, and low-key, but decidedly mid-range.

All rooms have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, coffee machines, and mini-fridges. Suites feature full kitchens with a mid-size fridge, stovetop, oven, microwave, pots and pans, and a table and chairs. One more recently renovated building houses eight rooms in a Tuscan-style villa with cream plaster, authentic Italian windows, tile roofs, and arched entryways.
