Romeo Hotel

With 10 floors of blue-tinted windows, the ultra-stylish Romeo Hotel, designed by Tokyo’s Kenzo Tange & Associates, stands out from the older buildings on the street. Its interiors are playful and luxurious, and show Japanese influences. A modern waterfall cascades from the ceiling at the entrance, and the lobby has red and black leather armchairs and couches, colorful artwork, and blue LED lights in the stairwell. The colorfully designed game lounge is similarly decorated and offers a pool table, jukebox, foosball, and chessboard. There’s also a shoe-shine station in the lobby. There aren’t any gardens here, but the outdoor pool deck, with its desert landscaping, provides beautiful views of the harbor. The hotel appeals to tourists -- mostly couples -- seeking luxurious rooms and gorgeous views. 

The hotel is located on a busy street in an industrial area with lots of cars and trams passing in front of the property. The Port of Naples, with ferries to Capri and Ischia, is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, where travelers will also find marina bars and restaurants. It’s also a 10-minute walk to several historical sights, including the Teatro San Carlo and Castel Nuovo. The Royal Palace of Naples is a 14-minute walk away, and the Bourbon Tunnel (Tunnel Borbonico) is a bit farther, an 18-minute stroll from the hotel. The Duomo and Naples National Archaeological Museum are 20 minutes by public transportation. This location is slightly removed from the grittier areas of Naples, namely the streets around the Naples Central Train Station, which is 20 minutes away by metro or bus. Naples International Airport is a 20-minute drive, without traffic. Many travelers use Naples as a base to travel to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, which are about 30 to 40 minutes away by car.

The hotel’s 83 rooms, which include suites, are luxurious, with leather designs, FontanaArte lighting fixtures, and exaggerated wood grains on floors and walls. But the beautiful harbor and Mount Vesuvius views are what make these rooms special. All rooms have minibars, safes, espresso machines, flat-screen TVs, and some have DVD/CD players. Marble bathrooms have showers, hairdryers, bidets, bathrobes, slippers, scales, and some have soaking tubs. Some rooms have glass-enclosed showers beside toilets, which can compromise privacy. There are 14 Specialty Suites with a range of luxury features, including whirlpool tubs, sitting areas or separate living rooms, antique fireplaces, and office areas with computers and fax machines. Fitness Suites include workout equipment, and Wellness Suites have whirlpool tubs, saunas, and steam baths. Romeo Bay View Suites offer fantastic harbor views. The Garden & Pool Suite features a Japanese-style garden and a six-person hot tub. The Romeo Skyline Suite has a sauna, steam bath, and dining room.

The Romeo Hotel offers beautiful views of the harbor and Mount Vesuvius from the ninth-floor pool that features submerged chairs and jets. The poolside bar, which closes early, is part of the Beluga Skybar that serves a free breakfast, including Champagne and gluten-free options. The II Comandante Restaurant is sophisticated in design and offers Italian cuisine with an Asian twist. On the ground floor is the Romeo Sushi Bar and Restaurant. There’s also a cigar lounge. The Dogana del Sale Spa, with 10,000 square feet of space, has eight treatment rooms, three hot tubs, saunas, and a state-of-the-art fitness center with mini-TVs on the machines. A children’s playroom, Kids Gardens, offers toys and games. For adults, the hotel has an indoor golf simulator and game lounge. Meetings of up to 200 people can be held on-site with four meeting rooms and a foyer. The lobby houses a business center with a printer and two Sony Vaio computers. Hertz also has a partnership with the hotel and provides discounts to guests. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, but the signal can be patchy.
