Bottom Line

More modern than many Reno hotels, Grand Sierra Resort and Casino is an upscale property that's about a 10-minute drive from downtown Reno, and not within walking distance of other casinos. On-site entertainment is in abundance -- there's a casino, movie theater, bowling alley, a beach-style outdoor pool, and driving range, as well as big-name music headliners plus a variety of restaurants and lounges. The 1,900 contemporary rooms have “spa-inspired” bathrooms, which are particularly impressive and outfitted in striking dark marble. In addition, the hotel offers a spa and fitness center and space for RV hookups.

Grand Sierra Resort and Casino

Scene

Big, modern hotel and casino with RV park plus impressive entertainment

Far more modern than many of its Reno counterparts, the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino is a massive property that towers over a parking lot and neighboring low-rise buildings. Inside, the contemporary lobby has sparkling chandeliers hanging over the front desk area just across from the casino floor. Vibrantly patterned carpets and marble floors run throughout. This resort offers almost anything that can be desired, from an RV lot with hookups to a lake with a driving range, and plenty of kid-friendly features like miniature golf, bumper cars, and an arcade. The outdoor pool is surrounded by a stone deck with lime-green and blue lounge chairs plus cabanas lined up in a sandy, beach-like area -- there's also a bar here that offers a spot for adults to grab a cocktail. Dining choices range from a pan-Asian bistro to a Johnny Rockets. The hotel draws current big name entertainment, including musical acts like Ricky Martin and Hozier, while there is also a proper nightclub and lounges offering country line-dancing. With its 200,000 feet of convention space, the hotel attracts business travelers and conference-goers, along with vacationing couples and families.

Rooms

Modern rooms with coffeemakers, mini-fridges, microwaves, and free Wi-Fi

The 1,900 rooms at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino are modern, with dark wood cabinets and furniture, chocolate brown carpets with vibrant white and red patterns, and stylish metal lamps. Rooms start at 448 square feet and have neutral, subtly patterned wallpaper that contrasts dark brown accent walls and dramatic white leather padded headboards over the beds. Wall art is generically abstract, but colorful, and rooms have large mirrors as well. We did notice a good amount of nicks and scratches in furniture and door frames when we visited. All rooms have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and microwaves. The spa-inspired bathrooms are the true highlight of the rooms. They are spacious and clad in striking dark marble with black granite countertops plus walk-in showers and toiletries. Bottled water, refreshed daily, is a nice added touch. A range of suites are available with separate living rooms, and some have wet bars. There is also an RV park with hookups available.
