Upper West Side location, within walking distance of Central Park
Spacious rooms feature flat-screen TVs, iHomes, and coffeemakers
Small business and fitness centers on-site
Free Wi-Fi throughout hotel
Room quality varies: Some have received modern renovations, while others have not
Entire hotel feels dated
Front desk often understaffed
This 347-room Days Inn has some positives: a great location on the residential Upper West Side; spacious rooms; and free Wi-Fi. But overall, the property feels dated, despite ongoing renovations. Rooms on the upper floors are bright, with modern decor and updated technology, but lower floors that have not received renovations are dated and musty. On-site amenities are few; there is a small fitness center with just two machines and a similarly sized business center. Rates are reasonable, but it's worth comparing with other properties in the area, such as the Newton Hotel or Marrakech Hotel.
Scene
Renovations are ongoing at this convenient but dated property.
This Days Inn on the Upper West Side has ongoing renovations to its exterior and rooms taking place throughout the hotel -- and they are much appreciated. The hotel could easily be an excellent mid-range option for travelers looking for a quiet and relaxed NYC visit, but the uneven quality of the rooms and public spaces prevent it from being so. Almost everything feels a bit dated -- except for rooms on upper floors that have undergone modern renovations -- and in need of a good cleaning. The lobby seating area, however, feels old-fashioned in a positive way, with a grand stone fireplace, coffered ceilings, dark wood columns, and large leather couches; it's always busy with guests coming and going.
Location
Northern side of the classy and bustling Upper West Side, amid shops, restaurants, and beautiful old buildings
Safe, residential, professional, and full of families, the Upper West Side is sandwiched between Manhattan's Central Park and Riverside Park. Beautiful low-rise brownstones blend with tall, swanky apartment buildings on the numbered streets that branch off Columbus Avenue, Amsterdam Avenue, and Broadway, the area's major thoroughfares. Kid-friendly museums such as the Children's Museum of Manhattan, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Hayden Planetarium make this a prime location for families looking to get away from the tourist crowds in Times Square.
Rooms
Uneven rooms are spacious with basic amenities.
While rooms on the upper floors feel bright and modern, those on lower levels feel dark and musty, despite being as spacious as those on upper floors. Flat-screen TVs, iHomes, and free Wi-Fi make this a solid choice technologically speaking. All rooms also have coffeemakers, and some have mini-fridges and microwaves, as well.Bathrooms are large and bright, with white subway tiles on the walls giving them a distinct New York vibe.
Features
Small fitness and business centers can only service a few people at a time.
The fitness center is home to one elliptical machine and one bike, making it inconveniently small for a hotel of this size. The business center is similarly small, with just three work stations. There is free Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel.
