Bottom Line

The DoubleTree Suites may be one of the best hotel options for families in New York City. The big two-room suites all come with pull-out couches and either one king or two double beds; the latter can fit up to six people, a rarity in the area. And the location right on Times Square is as central as it gets for sightseeing. It's a big corporate hotel with trendy lobby decor and clean, generic rooms; features include a cool back-lit lobby bar, a modern fitness center, and extensive meeting space. Some rooms have excellent views of Times Square, others face the New York City skyline (with peeks of Central Park in the distance). Higher floors are quieter and have better views.

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel New York City – Times Square

Location

Right on Broadway in Times Square

The DoubleTree Suites has a prime location right on Broadway and 47th St. in Times Square.

Though once seedy, Times Square was reborn in the mid-'90s as a commercialized tourist haven, lit by 24-hour flashing billboards and theme restaurants like ESPN Zone and Bubba Gump Shrimp. Today, visitors walking the streets are more likely to be accosted by a comedy-club promoter, a rickshaw bicycle operator, or a caricature artist than a mugger. It's crowded, but there's something unquestionably exhilarating -- and convenient -- about staying in the neon-lit heart of the city. Plus, the mayor recently decided to close off much of Broadway to traffic, making it more pedestrian-friendly.

  • In the heart of Times Square and the Theater District
  • 10-minute walk to Rockefeller Center
  • 10-minute walk to Bryant Park and the main branch of the New York Public Library
  • 13-minute walk to Columbus Circle and Central Park
