Bottom Line

Located in Midtown Manhattan, the three-pearl Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Midtown East is a solid option in terms of rates and features. It's within a 15-minute walk of Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Terminal, as well as several dining, shopping, and entertainment outlets. The 206 rooms are a bit bland in terms of decor though they are well-equipped with mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. The Great American Grill serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks (all for an additional fee); there's also free tea and coffee in the lobby. Business travelers enjoy the 24-hour fitness center, boardroom, and 24-hour business center. For something in the neighborhood with a bit more personality, the W New York Hotel has a Bliss Spa and sleeker rooms.

Hilton Garden Inn New York Manhattan Midtown East

Scene

28-story chain hotel with mostly welcoming interiors

The 28-floor Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Midtown East blends in among its neighboring buildings, with only a small sign above the entrance marking its name. The lobby is a dark space with dark reception desk, thick pillars in the middle of the room, and dark tiled floors. There's a small vibrant lounge area off the lobby with dark purple and green chairs, striped sofas, brightly-colored rug, red lighting, orange decor, and fireplace. Aside from the small courtyard on the street next to the entrance, there are no outdoor spaces here. The restaurant, though rather small, is the most welcoming space in the hotel, with warm lighting and cushioned furniture. There are only two elevators available for 28 floors, so expect a long wait at the elevator. Guests are a combination of business and leisure travelers, including couples and families.
