Bottom Line

Housed in a section of one of Manhattan's priciest apartment buildings, the five-pearl Park Hyatt New York offers a slice of life as a Midtown millionaire. The 210 rooms range in size from Standard Rooms to Presidential Suites, and come with balconies and Nespresso coffeemakers. However, views are only impressive from the higher floors and guests staying on lower levels may feel hemmed in. Features include a spa, a fitness center, and a pool, plus a restaurant serving new American cuisine. Travelers who want to stay at a sleek, luxury destination in midtown Manhattan may want to compare rates at the comparably priced Mandarin Oriental, which has sumptuous rooms, views of Central Park, and excellent on-site dining.

Park Hyatt New York

Scene

Modern Midtown hotel with sleek interiors

Designed by the team of YabuPushelberg, the interior of the Park Hyatt New York features modern comforts and upscale materials. The high-ceilinged entry area has polished stone floors and gray marble walls. Sheets of metal rectangles and a spiral, dark-wood staircase accent the space. Seating ranges from Daniel Libeskind's stainless-steel "Spirit House Chair" to more comfortable velvet lounge chairs and maroon benches. Visitors check in on the third floor at a desk made out of hard foam, resin, and spray-on steel. The hotel restaurant and bar are similarly outfitted. The Back Room restaurant has wood tables surrounded by tall leather armchairs, while The Living Room Bar is more eclectic, with ornamental blocks piled high on white rectangular tables, semi-circular leather lounge chairs, and cream-colored couches. Meeting spaces range from intimate VIP boardrooms to glitzy event spaces. The Onyx Room has illuminated-up walls made from Italian onyx. A "Residence Kitchen," with tangerine and cinnamon-hued walls, can be used as a party showcase space. The hotel attracts tourists and business travelers alike, and occupies part of one of Manhattan's most upscale apartment buildings.
