Bottom Line

The 342-room upscale Diamond Bay Resort & Spa is part of a huge and growing complex situated on the main highway between Cam Ranh International Airport and the city of Nha Trang. Rooms are spacious and handsome, but a bit dated, with beautiful views of gardens or the sea. The resort offers plenty to do on site, including golf, tennis, two beaches, a gigantic pool, and a spa, and many groups come for the extensive events space. Three restaurants and four bars keep everyone fed, and a free shuttle provides local transportation. The Mia Resort Nha Trang offers similar features and more stylish rooms, although it is more expensive.

Diamond Bay Resort & Spa

Scene

Huge complex draws tour groups, families, couples, and groups of friends

The entrance to this huge complex is grand, with lavish gardens, Vietnamese stone pools, fountains, and a large columned porte cochere with bellmen standing ready to welcome guests. Guests enter into another grand space, with a soaring ceiling, more columns, ceiling fans, and contemporary lighting fixtures overhead. Cushioned wicker seating is all around, providing multiple spots for guests to gather in the lobby. The space is gigantic, suitable for accommodating the large tour and incentive groups that often gather here. Public spaces throughout are a mixture of bland and outdated areas, alongside stylish, modern spaces, like the open-air Rosy Restaurant. The resort is also popular with couples, families, and groups of friends -- many visitors come from Russia, though other European and Asian travelers also pass through.

Location

Located on main highway between airport and Nha Trang

The hotel is located on the main highway on the way from Cam Ranh International Airport to the coastal city of Nha Trang. It is part of a huge resort complex with a golf course and an upcoming shopping mall and other developments. The resort is isolated, although it has its own beach and lagoon. It is about a 30-minute scenic drive from the airport and about 20 minutes by car from Tran Phu, the main street in downtown Nha Trang. A free shuttle takes guests to town and around the resort property. Other local sights include the ancient Po Nagar Cham Towers, which are about 30 minutes away by road, and the views of the coastline from Hon Chong Promontory, also 30 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with beach or garden views, some with hot tubs

The resort's accommodations are divided between 176 rooms in four three-story buildings and 164 bungalows. Rooms feature views of the gardens or mountains. Bungalows are larger, closer to the beach, and offer beach or garden views. All feature private balconies or terraces, air-conditioning, minibars, safes, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, and hairdryers. Decor is attractive and well kept, but varies from contemporary to dated, sometimes within the same room. Neutral color schemes abound and most rooms have a handsome accent wall in modern shades. Dark wood furniture is used throughout, and while some has clean, simple lines, other pieces have old floral upholstered panels or chunkier silhouettes. Rooms have cream-color tile floors and walls are mostly bare but for an often solitary piece of abstract art. Bathrooms are also a mixed bag of styles. There are shower/tub combos with contemporary fixtures and hardware, but tilework looks outdated, and the pink granite used for counters in some bathrooms isn't the most attractive. Larger bungalows are available and have wood floors with features that can include big hot tubs, extra-large baths along, and stylish outdoor showers. Noise can be an issue in some rooms.

Features

Extensive resort facilities, a gigantic pool and two beaches, plus multiple restaurants

The resort's attractions and offerings are broad. An 18-hole golf course is situated between the mountains and the sea, offering gorgeous views of both. Other sports on-site include tennis, volleyball, biking, and football, and pathways are suitable for walking and running. For guests wanting to work out inside, there's a huge, modern fitness center. The gigantic swimming pool is next to one of the two beaches and is surrounded by palm trees -- there are views of mountains off in the distance. It's a picturesque place for hanging out on the padded woven lounge chairs under umbrellas, or to have a snack and drink at one of the cafe dining sets. The two wide, sandy beaches -- the only private beaches in Nha Trang -- are also a good place for hanging out, whether it's to relax under a palapa or enjoy water sports such as snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing, or jet-skiing. Guests can opt to have a massage treatment under a palapa overlooking the sea, or they can go inside to one of the treatment rooms in the spa. There's a sauna, steam bath, hot and cold baths, and a VIP couples room in the spa. A salon is also on site. Dining includes Universe Restaurant for international fare, Rosy Restaurant for international breakfast buffets (which are included in room rates), and Omai Vietnamese Restaurant for authentic Vietnamese dishes. There are also four bars on-site and the C Club for karaoke, live music, and 3-D movies. There is a kids' club and shops selling everything from sundries to jewelry. Events space can accommodate all sizes of gatherings for groups of up to 1,000 people. Wi-Fi is free throughout and the hotel runs a free shuttle throughout its grounds and the local area.
