Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Marriott Gateway on the Falls is a tall chain hotel with a quiet location, close proximity to Niagara Falls and nearby attractions, and plenty of on-site amenities (including an indoor pool and fitness center). There's a modern, bright restaurant, a Starbucks in the lobby, and a business center, but pesky fees for parking, Wi-Fi, and breakfast buffet really add up. Most rooms are fresh and contemporary, if generic. It's worth comparing rates at the Marriott Niagara Falls Fallsview Hotel & Spa across the street; both properties offer guests the same convenience but the Fallsview has a spa.

Scene

Large and spacious hotel with falls views

The large lobby at the Marriott Gateway on the Falls is divided into several sections, with guests entering into the center that includes a tour desk, gift shop, and several clusters of couches and chairs. To the right is the reception area as well as several public computers for printing boarding passes. To the left is a Starbucks coffee shop and plenty of seating, as well as a large area with bar that’s available for guests in the evening. Elevators are nearby, as well as hallways that lead to the indoor pool and whirlpool, and stairs that lead to the lower-level fitness center. Most guests are here to visit Niagara Falls.

Location

Close to Niagara Falls, but in a quieter part of the tourist district

Located in the busy Fallsview tourist district, this Marriott is next door to a number of restaurants, bars, casinos, and other hotels, including a second Marriott property. On the end of a long stretch of hotels and restaurants on Fallsview Boulevard, Marriott Gateway on the Falls is a bit quieter than other nearby properties. Guests can walk right to the Niagara Falls Parkway: a long walking path provides scenic views of both sets of waterfalls, as well as welcome centers and restaurants. The hotel is also a short walk from the Clifton Hill tourist district, giving guests plenty of options for dining and entertainment, including popular attractions like the Niagara Skywheel, Skylon Tower, Niagara Fallsview Casino, and Fallsview Waterpark. Like most features at this hotel, there's a charge for parking.

Rooms

Clean, contemporary rooms with some great views of Niagara Falls

The clean and contemporary rooms at this hotel are fairly standard for a Marriott property, with quality white bedding, generic dark wood furniture, and pops of orange. Drab carpets and plaid curtains look more industrial than stylish. The cheapest rooms are on the lower floors, with views of either the city or the falls, but guests who want the best views or larger rooms should book the more premium rooms on the higher floors. All rooms include a mini-fridge and coffeemaker. Larger rooms are more spacious and include extra features such as a whirlpool tub, fireplace, table and chairs, pull-out sofa bed, multiple bedrooms, and multiple levels. There's a daily charge for Wi-Fi in each room.

Features

Indoor pool, fitness center, Starbucks, and more

This hotel is fairly large and includes a number of standard amenities, including a large 24-hour fitness center, 24-hour business center, indoor pool and whirlpool, computers in the lobby specifically designated for printing boarding passes, and a gift shop. The Marriott Gateway also includes their on-site restaurant, Milestones, which serves lunch and dinner with views of the falls -- and room services. The substantial hot and cold breakfast buffet is served in a cute cafe, for a charge. A Starbucks coffee shop is in the lobby, along with a large lobby bar. Guests are also given access to the larger Marriott Fallsview across the street, which features spa services as well as additional restaurants, pools, and services.
