Most Romantic Hotels in Nice

The Hotel Negresco's landmark, 1913 Art Deco building dominates a corner of the famous Promenade des Anglais, overlooking a private beach near Old Town. Inside, the spectacular, oval lobby is decorated in the style of Louis XVI with marble floors, white columns, and a huge crystal chandelier surrounded by an ornate skylight with gilded molding and cherub illustrations. The Hotel Negresco offers 96 rooms and 21 suites, each individually decorated with antique furniture and original art that can range from Louis XIII-style to modern paintings. Decor is decidedly rich with deep colors of red, blue, and gold for carpeting, wall-coverings and drapes. La Rotonde Brasserie serves a breakfast buffet (for a fee) in a whimsical, carousel-themed room, and the Le Chantecler offers a fine-dining experience. The equally decadent Le Relais Bar hosts live entertainment nightly in an English-themed setting.

Ideally located on the beach and the Promenade des Anglais, in the heart of Nice, this storied grand dame is a modern luxury hotel in an historic Art Deco building. The 187 rooms are spacious and modern, with bold splashes of color, large modern bathrooms, and views overlooking either the sea, wedge-shaped outdoor pool, or surrounding streets. The Palais de la Méditeranée is home to the highly acclaimed Le 3e Restaurant, which serves an extensive Mediterranean and Southern French menu with seasonal produce, as well as an adjoining bar and lounge, with plush chairs and a piano bar. 

One of the most famous hotels in Nice, the five-floor Westminster Hotel & Spa is a genuine piece of French Riviera history. Built in 1878 by the ancestors of the current owners, the hotel is a restored Belle Epoque-era gem situated right on the vibrant Promenade des Anglais, overlooking the Mediterranean. While it doesn't boast the sheer luxury and Michelin-rated dining of the Hotel Negresco or the pool and other recreational facilities of the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Mediterannee, the three-and-a-half pearl Westminster offers more affordable rates in addition to a private beach area, lavishly decorated public spaces, contemporary rooms, and a restaurant and bar with a sea-facing terrace. 

Housed in a Belle Epoque-era building from 1913, the Boscolo Exedra Nice is an upper-middle-range boutique that, in contrast to its historic facade, has modern and minimalist interiors, with retro-futuristic furnishings and artwork. The 113 spacious rooms feature a striking all-white color palette, dashes of cream and ivory, and Rococo touches in the headboards. Rooms come with free newspapers, minibars, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, plush beds, and marble bathrooms with bathrobes and slippers. The Boscolo Exedra has a wide array of amenities, including an inviting Mediterranean restaurant focusing on fresh seafood, an indoor pool with waterfall feature, full-service spa with Turkish steam room, sauna, and aromatic showers.

With its lush gardens and art-focused aesthetic, it's no surprise that the Hotel Windsor mostly appeals to couples. The lobby is spacious and modern, filled with temporary art exhibits and antiques, and has plenty of comfortable seating and large glass doors that overlook the verdant garden. Each of the 30 rooms has been uniquely decorated by a different artist, some with handpainted frescoes. The hotel's most memorable feature is a jungly garden filled with exotic plants, bougainvilleas, and trees, as well as a kidney-shaped swimming pool, and an enormous cage filled with colorful parrots. There are plenty of tables and seating from which to enjoy this oasis over a glass of wine or a meal. The farm-to-table restaurant's main room -- also the bar and breakfast room -- resembles a wood-paneled library and has a fireplace; the bar area has a piano and stained glass window. 

The 38-room Hotel Suisse on the French Riviera in Nice, France, has one of the best views in the city from its seaside-facing rooms. The upper-mid-range hotel is also located close to Nice's major attractions, such as the Promenade des Anglais and Vieux Nice (the old town). It's a 15-minute drive to the Nice Côte d'Azur Airport and guests can take buses or trains to Monaco (approximately 45 minutes). For a similar old-style hotel steps from the beach but with much more glamour and a slightly higher price point, try the Hotel Negresco. 

Set in a typical Nicoise building from 1920 on one of Nice's most stylish streets, the Boulevard Dubouchage, the 110-room Hotel Ellington is packed with historic charm. Rooms are fresh and tastefully decorated, with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning, although some are on the small side. Due to its city-center location, there aren't a ton of extras at this hotel, though some of those that are missing are surprising -- like the lack of a proper restaurant for lunch or dinner. The hotel does have a handsome dining room where breakfast is served every day (for a fee), and its jazz-inspired Le Duke Bar and Lounge is a casual, cozy space for cocktails and live jazz. 

The eight-floor, 128-room Splendid Hotel & Spa is a contemporary upper-middle-range hotel in central Nice. The property offers a wide array of facilities including a full-service spa, seasonal rooftop pool with hot tub, rooftop bar, and restaurant with locally sourced cuisine. The cozy rooms have free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, and many rooms come with jetted tubs and/or balconies. While not in the league of the Negresco, Palais de la Méditérannée, or other luxury Nice hotels, the Splendid is a good option for travelers seeking comfort in a central location a five-minute walk from the Promenade, and not far from the train station. 

The 26-room Hotel Villa Rivoli is a charming, mid-range hotel in a central Nice location. This intimate property doesn't have a pool, spa, or fitness center, but does offer warm and attentive service and an ample breakfast buffet (for a fee) with al fresco dining available in the hotel's garden. Individually decorated guest rooms have an elegant feel, and most have small balconies. The beach and Promenade des Anglais are a three-minute walk south of the hotel, and bars, dining, and shopping are plentiful in the surrounding area.
