The Time Nyack

Opened in 2016, The Time Nyack is housed in a former factory, using its history to inspire its current industrial-chic design. Sister hotel to The Time New York in Manhattan, this property aims to provide a getaway for urbanites wanting to experience the charm of an artsy town along the Hudson River. Cool, hip design elements are found throughout, such as a bright-red front door, Instagram-worthy picture frames over leather banquettes, and portraits of celebrities. This trendy look continues into rooms that pair damask wallpaper with striking skull-patterned rugs (which have reportedly been sold to many enamored guests).

A seasonal outdoor pool alongside a bar and patio are busy in the warmer months, while events keep the indoor restaurant and lounge hopping year-round. An added plus is that pets are allowed and guests can walk to the town center. On the downside, some noise from hotel halls and the adjacent highway are present. Hotel options are very limited in Nyack, and The Time is the most upscale.

The Time Nyack is located just off Interstate 287, about an hour’s drive north of Manhattan. The charming, artsy town of Nyack sits to the west of the Hudson River, and the most convenient metro station for Manhattanites is in Tarrytown, a 15-minute drive away. Guests of The Time Nyack are a 10- to 15-minute walk from the town center, where there are a good array of tasty restaurants, antique and boutique stores, and art galleries. The popular Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center is under a 20-minute walk away. The Nyack Marina, and its adjacent park and skatepark, are just over a 20-minute walk from the hotel. The Palisades Center shopping mall is a six-minute drive.

The Time Nyack’s 133 rooms and suites are similarly designed with an industrial-chic look that feels modern and a bit edgy. Expect black-and-white patterned wallpaper behind beds, multi-colored area rugs with skulls, streamlined wood furniture and floors, and large hanging mirrors with ornate black frames. Rooms vary in terms of spaciousness, with Balcony Kings starting at 226 square feet, and Loft Double Doubles measuring at least 344 square feet. While units with balconies are pleasant, views are largely mediocre and directly face the highway. Additionally, some noise from inside and outside the hotel is present.

Nevertheless, amenities are solid. Flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, coffee- and tea-making facilities, laptop-sized electronic safes, work desks, and radio alarm clocks come standard. Straightforward bathrooms have showers, bathrobes, hairdryers, and free toiletries. Upgraded suites add perks such as separate stand-alone clawfoot bathtubs, living rooms with couches, dining tables, microwaves, and/or espresso machines.

All the necessary features are available at The Time Nyack. For starters, BV’s Grill restaurant serves tasty fare all day in a bright indoor space with bright-red seating and a portrait of Elizabeth Taylor. An outdoor patio is available in warmer months. All rates include a continental breakfast spread of pastries, coffee, and juice. Lunch and dinner menus include steaks, flatbreads, lobster rolls, and sushi. Room service is available for all meals.

Next to the restaurant is a casual lounge bar with leather couches, a large projector showing sports games, and a fireplace. There’s also a full bar outside that’s seasonal. Partitioned from here via a wooden fence is the seasonal pool deck. The small rectangular pool has an adjacent hot tub, and a variety of couches, cushioned loungers, and round chairs. Waiter service is provided for drinks and food.

Detached from the main building is a small 24-hour gym with just a few cardio machines, an exercise ball, and rack of free weights.

The Time Nyack is a popular spot for corporate meetings and events such as a wedding due to its customizable ballroom with its own bar, meeting room, and boardroom. Wi-Fi and parking are both free, and a limited number of bikes are available rent.
