The hostel is in a prime location for beach-goers. Off of Lemon Road, the hostel is a one-minute walk to the beach. The Honolulu Zoo is two minutes away on foot. There are several dining and shopping options in the immediate area, including one of Honolulu's ubiquitous ABC convenience stores, where guests can pick up toiletries and snacks. The area around the hostel can be a little seedy at night, but it's busy and a block away from two bus stops. The hotel staff can help arrange shuttle or taxi transportation to the airport.

The Waikiki Beachside Hostel has private/semi-private rooms and mixed-gender or female-only dorms for up to eight people. Dorms have basic metal bunk beds with just sheets and pillows, but they're clean. Shared bathrooms are dated but have shower/tub combos. Toiletries and towels aren't provided but can be purchased at the hostel. Some rooms have kitchens with working appliances and dishes, as well as TVs. Rooms also have lockers, which can be used for a fee. Some rooms have air conditioning; those that don't have ceiling fans. Some guests have complained that the fans don't do much in the way of cooling.
