Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Hilton Suites Ocean City Oceanfront is good for families with its multiple restaurants, indoor and outdoor pools -- one with slides and fountains -- and a kids’ club. All 225 rooms have full kitchens, separate living rooms with sofa beds, and modern bathrooms with whirlpool tubs. The beach is right outside, and there are entertainment and restaurants within a five-minute walk, including Jolly Roger Amusement Park. However, it is not convenient to the popular amusement parks and shops at the south end of the boardwalk, which are a 10-minute drive away. While kids will find fun activities here, those looking for a truly fun-filled stay should check out Carousel Resort Hotel and Condominiums, where there are a bounce house, dance parties, a game room, and even an indoor ice-skating rink.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hilton Suites Ocean City Oceanfront

Scene

Family-friendly hotel with well-designed common spaces and contemporary feel

The Hilton Suites Ocean City stands out on the street as the biggest, most grandiose building in the area. White towers topped with arches stand tall over the first-floor parking garage and second-floor lobby. The lobby is a large, open space with bright light streaming in from glass doors looking out on the pools and beach. Neutral colors are embellished with potted plants, contemporary chandeliers, and a statue of a golden heron stretching his wings. Outside, pool decks surround a grand exterior stairway headed down to the beach, with a beautiful view of the ocean. In summer, the hotel’s popularity with families means there are a lot of children, especially at the pools. In the off-season, the hotel is more popular with couples and tends to be quieter.

Rooms

Modern suites with a relaxing feel plus full kitchens, living rooms, and whirlpool tubs

Rooms at this all-suite hotel are spacious and comfortable with a minimalist design. Warm, neutral shades with pretty sea-blue or green accents and modest, but contemporary furnishings create a lovely, relaxing environment. King-size or two queens beds have white linens and are topped with down pillows and duvets. Bedrooms also have a closet, a dresser, and a 42-inch flat-screen TV. A sliding door opens from the bedroom to the balcony, most with gorgeous ocean views. Living rooms are a bit tight with a queen-size sofa bed, chair, small desk, and small dining table with four chairs. To fit four people, the table needs to be pulled out into the room, which can get a bit awkward. Another 42-inch flat-screen with a DVD player is mounted here.

The two rooms are separated by a short hallway with a door to the bathroom on one wall and a full kitchen on the other. A full-size refrigerator, oven, microwave, and dishwasher make in-room meals a viable option. All rooms also have a coffeemaker, ironing board, and safe. Bathrooms are modern and tranquil with wood-paneled walls, stone tile in the shower or tub, and black-granite countertops. All rooms have deep whirlpool tubs, most with rainfall showerheads. In corner suites, the bathroom has a shower stall and the whirlpool is moved to the bedroom. Free toiletries include high-end Peter Thomas Roth toiletries and make-up wipes.

Features

Three restaurants, three pools, a fitness center, and a kids’ club

Kids are particularly well-catered to at the Hilton Suites Ocean City Oceanfront. A good-size pool with a concrete patio offers a hot tub, plenty of loungers, and a swim-up bar in peak season. In colder weather, the indoor pool is a welcome alternative. A sun-filled fitness center has free weights and a few treadmills and bicycle machines. There's a tiny convenience store with travel and beach necessities and an ATM. For kids, there are an excellent pool with fountains and slides, a kids’ club for organized activities, and a fun arcade with a variety of games.

The main restaurant serves three meals daily with Caribbean flair. Some find the food and service excellent, while others prefer to pay more to eat elsewhere. The lounge and seasonal pool bar serve lighter fare for those seeking a quick meal. A coffee shop in the lobby is a nice extra, as well. The business center -- a desk with a couple of computers and a printer -- is tucked in a hallway intersection past the elevators. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, though guests note the connection can be spotty.
