Bottom Line

The 294-room Park Inn Toledo is a three-pearl Radisson hotel that connects to the SeaGate Convention Centre as well as the Huntington Center Arena via skywalks. Its own meeting facilities can host events for up to 700 people, and there's a 24-hour business center as well as an Asian fusion restaurant and bar on-site. Spacious, pragmatic rooms have desks with ergonomic chairs, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges, plus some have views of the Maumee River, but their decor could use updating. Travelers who don't need to be in the middle of downtown should check rates at the Hampton Inn & Suites Toledo/Westgate, which also has a pool.

Park Inn Toledo

Scene

Mid-range downtown hotel geared toward convention attendees

Built to accommodate large groups for conferences and sporting events, the Park Inn Toledo is a Radisson property with all the hallmarks of a downtown business hotel. The hotel has its own meeting facilities and a skywalk connecting it to neighboring convention centers. The lobby sees plenty of guests coming and going, though there are couches set up around large flat-screen TVs -- it's a fine space to wait for fellow business travelers or for transport to the airport. The lobby has floor-to-ceiling windows, multiple entrances, and a sweeping staircase up to a mezzanine level -- decor is standard, though the abundance of patterns from the carpets to the couches speaks to a slightly earlier time. During peak wedding season, the hotel hosts wedding parties nearly every weekend. Those in town on business, including groups for conventions or guests of the aforementioned weddings, make up the bulk of guests here.

Location

Downtown location, overlooking the Maumee River

Located in downtown Toledo, the hotel is surrounded by large convention centers and is situated by the Swan Creek tributary of the Maumee River. Skywalks connect the property to the next door SeaGate Convention Centre as well as the Huntington Center Arena. The Fifth Third Field baseball stadium -- home to the Toledo Mud Hens -- is just down the street and there are many restaurants and bars within walking distance, including popular eateries directly across the river at The Docks. The Toledo Museum of Art, which has an impressive collection for a city this size, is a five-minute drive from the hotel, while families are just a five-minute walk from Imagination Station, an interactive museum that's great for kids. The Toledo Express Airport is a 25-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Simple rooms with practical business features and dated decor

The hotel has 294 straightforward rooms with dated decor and a sedate beige palate. We found that some of the rooms could use fresh air, plus some have old tube TVs, and all could use general updates. Expect to see wallpaper borders, soft abstract wall art, and patterned carpets, though the dark wood veneer furniture at least feels a bit more contemporary. Some rooms have river views and others overlook the stadium, allowing for limited viewing of baseball games from the modestly sized windows. Work desks with ergonomic roller chairs come standard, along with small sitting areas with two upholstered armchairs. Rooms also have mini-fridges and coffeemakers. Small bathrooms have average shower/tub combos, spacious travertine vanities, and tan-tile floors that could use a good scrub in some rooms. Suites have river views and add dining tables and wet bars -- many have separate living rooms and bedrooms.

Features

Large meeting facilities, Asian fusion restaurant, fitness center and sauna, and free area shuttle

The hotel's event facilities total almost 12,000-square-feet of flexible meeting rooms along with a grand ballroom that can seat up to 700 guests. There's also a 24-hour business center with multiple work stations and a printer. The small fitness center has a mix of up-to-date cardio and weight-training machines along with a sauna. For dining, Noodle Bar & Restaurant is a casual Asian fusion restaurant with a pool table that's open from breakfast through dinner. Breakfast isn't included with room rates, and room service is available. The hotel shares parking with the SeaGate Convention Centre for a fee, but a free shuttle bus will take guests anywhere within a two-mile radius, including the Hollywood Casino, until fairly late at night. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. There's a small shop selling sundries and the hotel allows pets with fees and restrictions.
