Bottom Line

The 100-room Hotel Karbel Sun is a mid-range, family-friendly property on the Turquoise Coast. Its best feature is its location, right at the top of the main strip in Oludeniz and within a 10-minute walk of the beach and Blue Lagoon. If this is guests' priority, they likely won’t mind the dated and small Standard Rooms. Higher-category rooms are larger and have more contemporary furniture, plus mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs. The restaurant and bar on-site receive favorable reviews, as does the main pool with a smaller children’s pool and activities for youngsters and adults alike. This hotel is a decent option for its price, but Belcehan Deluxe has similar rates and more attractive rooms.

Hotel Karbelsun

Scene

Lovely gardens and pools catered to both families and couples

The Hotel Karbel Sun has beautiful gardens, complete with neatly trimmed shrubs, paved paths, and a varied assortment of pine trees, cacti, and fruit trees. Tucked away in one corner of the shrubbery is a small playground. The hotel, like the majority in Oludeniz, is a set of white three-story villas with red-tiled roofs and small wrought-iron balconies. They're surrounded by stunning mountains and even have views of paragliders. The large pool and activities such as belly dancing and quiz nights aim to keep couples and families occupied on-site.

Much like the rooms, the design in the public spaces is a mix of dated and contemporary furnishings; the lobby is filled with old-fashioned armchairs and tufted couches in multiple bright shades alongside blue-tinted floor-to-ceiling windows. There's some wear and tear, as well, but guests mostly overlook it because of the affordable rates.

Location

On the main strip in Oludeniz, minutes from the beaches

The hotel has a prime location, atop the main strip in Oludeniz. It’s a short five-minute walk to the beach and another five minutes to the famed Blue Lagoon -- one of the most photographed beaches in Turkey, popular among paragliders and beachgoers alike. The nearby village of Hisaronu, which has restaurants, bars, spas, and retail shops, is a 55-minute walk, or just a seven-minute drive away. For cultural attractions, Fethiye is a lovely seaside town with ancient tombs, a Roman amphitheater, a fortress, and a museum; it’s nearly a half-hour by taxi, but considered well worth the trip. The Dalaman Airport is about a 75-minute drive from the property.

Rooms

Basic but functional air-conditioned rooms, with small outdoor spaces

The Hotel Karbel Sun has basic, dated Standard Rooms and higher-category rooms with more contemporary furnishings. Standard Rooms are minimally furnished with classic wood furniture, white walls, and white quilts that are too short to cover the box springs. The furniture shows wear and tear and the only decor comes from a small piece of artwork over the beds and sconce lighting on either side. These rooms have air-conditioning and old tube-style TVs. Higher-category rooms have similarly bland neutral-tone designs, but the furniture is more modern and some have purple chairs for a splash of color. These rooms also come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges.

All rooms have either balconies or patios, some of which are tiny, and they offer views of the pool, sea, or mountains. Bathrooms are small but functional, outfitted with small shower stalls and hairdryers, but no toiletries. Family Rooms and a Honeymoon Suite are also available.

Features

Pool with nearby bar and restaurant

The large pool is the center of the property, featuring a walking bridge across the middle and an adjacent smaller pool for little ones. Lounge chairs and umbrellas surround the pool, and there are stunning views of the Babadag Mountains. A small playground is available for kids, but there are no gym or spa facilities. Occasional there's evening entertainment in the form of breakdancing or quiz nights.

The hotel’s restaurant has outside seating on a deck, which also offers vistas of the mountain range. The menu is mostly Turkish fare and reviews for the food are predominantly positive. A pool bar serving drinks and snacks is also available. Wicker seating is scattered throughout, under the canopy and outside. Free Wi-Fi is available around the pool and dining outlets.
