Bottom Line

Set on two acres in Mississauga’s Credit River Valley, the upper-middle-range Glenerin Inn is a charming 1927-built mansion adorned with exposed ceiling beams and stained-glass windows. It's a popular wedding and business destination, with five banquet spaces, four patios, a full-service spa, a restaurant, and a fireplace lounge that can get noisy during private functions. Thirty individually designed rooms -- located in the mansion or carriage house that's accessible via an underground pathway -- have flat-screen TVs with Apple TV and Italian coffeemakers; some offer fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. However, keep in mind: Rooms are also small with thin walls.

Glenerin Inn & Spa

Scene

Historic mansion with lovely stonework and a two-acre wooded property

The Glenerin Inn stands out beside the few high-rises that are on the tree-lined College Way in Mississauga. The mansion’s architecture replicates an English country home with stone masonry and black-tiled pitched rooftops. Exposed beams crisscross the vaulted ceilings in the entrance hall, which has stone walls, elegant furniture and fireplaces. Trees and lawns make up the two-acre property that provides walking paths and patio dining areas. Narrow hallways and staircases, with wooden rails, maintain the mansion’s old-style charm, while gray leather seating and glass coffee tables add contemporary touches. Before the two-acre property became a hotel in 1986 it was used as a family retreat by Watson Evans, a local lawyer who built the home in 1927. Over the years the property has been adapted for different purposes. During World War II, it was used as a safe harbor for English children, and after the war it became a vacation destination for employees of the Robert Simpson Company department store. Today the property is often buzzing with lively wedding receptions. The intimate setting attracts both couples and business travelers. However, travelers with mobility issues should note there isn’t an elevator.
