Bottom Line

When driving up to this timeshare property –- comprised of two nondescript high-rise buildings –- guests may not be too impressed, but this mid-range property has a lot more to offer than what first meets the eye. All units have an upscale, homey vibe and come equipped with modern, fully-stocked kitchens, bedrooms with spacious bathrooms, and up-to-date technology like large flat-screen TVs with DVD players. And the list of on-site activities is extensive; aside from the lovely pool area, the hotel features family-friendly amenities such as basketball, volleyball, and a game room. Pesky sales people can be a bother and there is a fee to use Wi-Fi, but the Westgate is nonetheless a solid choice for those planning longer Orlando stays.

Westgate Palace Resort

Scene

This timeshare property attracts families and business travelers on extended visits.

Comprised of two high-rise buildings, Westgate Palace sits next to a lovely lake on a street just off of International Drive. The lobby is small considering the size of the property, but it never feels too crowded -– probably due to the fact that the hotel’s many amenities are spread out around the heated outdoor pool.

As a time-share property with only one room type (all are two-bedroom units that can accommodate up to six people), the Westgate largely attracts families and business travelers on week-long trips who prefer the quiet atmosphere of a non-resort (albeit with resort-like amenities) and the convenience of homey amenities such as full kitchens and in-unit washer/dryers.

Location

Just off of International Drive, within walking distance of several attractions, shops, and restaurants

Sitting next to a lake (where activities such as paddle boating abound), the Westgate Palace is just off of International Drive -– meaning there’s less traffic noise but its still within easy reach of Orlando’s most popular attractions. Guests can walk to Wet ‘n Wild Water Park - which is about a 15-minute stroll away -- and numerous shops and restaurants if they so choose. And Universal Studios, Sea World, Walt Disney World, the Convention Center, and several upscale malls and outlet malls are just a short drive from Westgate Palace. The hotel also provides a free shuttle to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, Sea World, and the Orlando Premium Outlets.

Rooms

All units are upscale -– albeit a bit gaudy -- two-bedroom villas with all the amenities of a condo.

At this timeshare property, all units are two-bedroom villas that can fit up to six people. They are modern, well-maintained, and thoroughly up-to-date. Fully-stocked kitchens feature granite countertops, dishwashers, and full-size refrigerators; bedrooms boast plush linens, large flat-screen TVs with DVD players, and bathrooms with whirlpool tubs; and all units also have washer/dryers and separate living rooms.

Though the decor is fresh, some may find it a tad gaudy: picture royal blue curtains with gold accents and elaborate designs (including the Westgate logo) on the wooden furniture. Nonetheless, the overall vibe is homey and upscale.

Features

All of the family-friendly features of a large resort, many of which are centered lakeside

Like many properties in Orlando, the Westgate Palace makes sure to provide a plethora of activities for guests with kids in tow. Most can be found centered by the lakeside pool, which in itself is a highlight with plenty of lounge chairs and seating, grilling stations, a cozy fire pit, and even a gazebo. Guests can also go out on the lake in paddle boats, play volleyball and basketball, explore the playground, and play games in the game room.

The pool bar and the steam room draw parents and business travelers alike. The property also boasts a small fitness center; though the cardio and weight-training machines are up-to-date, the space is a bit narrow and cramped.

Though there is no table-service restaurant on-site, numerous restaurants (mostly of the kid-friendly variety) are within walking distance, and there is an on-site deli which serves simple bites like salads, sandwiches, and chicken fingers, as well as grab-and-go snacks and Starbucks. Room service is also available for lunch and dinner.

Westgate Palace provides a free shuttle to nearby attractions including Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, and the Premium Outlets.
