Scandic St. Olavs plass

Located on the edge of a lovely cobblestone roundabout, the Scandic Edderkoppen shares a seven-story building with the Edderkoppen Theatre, which has occupied the site since 1967. Common areas were fully renovated in 2015 and have a vintage-inspired look, incorporating mid-century modern furniture, contemporary lighting fixtures,and brass elements. A dining area offers seating and tables near the snack shop. Much like other Scandic hotels, hallways are lined in patterned carpeting marked with Italian words, and the elevators operate with key cards. This somewhat quirky and fun hotel should appeal to any traveler seeking a moderately priced room near the city center. 

The hotel is set in St. Olavs Plass Square, a quiet area that’s north of the city center and within walking distance of Oslo's major attractions. It’s a 10-minute walk to the Royal Palace, and a five-minute walk to Karl Johans Gate, the main street in Oslo with shopping and dining. The Opera House and Akershus Castle are 20 minutes away by public transportation. The Aker Brygge, a waterfront promenade with restaurants, is a 10-minute bus ride away. A subway trip to the Holmenkollbakken Ski Jump takes 45 minutes. Oslo Airport Gardemoen is about 45 minutes away by train, or a 40-minute drive.

The 241 rooms have a fun, creative style, with mostly gray interiors and purple or blue velvet furniture. Rooms feature show girls kicking up their heels on wallpaper over the beds, wooden floors, and bistro tables or built-in desks set against collage wall art. Select rooms have balconies that overlook the city. There aren’t any closets, but built-in wardrobe racks have full-length mirrors. Economy Rooms are small, at about 160 square feet (15 square meters), and Standard Rooms aren’t much bigger. Superior Rooms are larger, and can accommodate up to four people. Superior Plus Rooms offer kettles and bathrobes, and Junior Suites have sitting areas, two flat-screen TVs, and king beds. Bathrooms are clean with small showers, hairdryers, and wall-mounted FACE Stockholm toiletries. All rooms have flat-screen TVs and safes. Mini-fridges, if not included, can be requested. 

The Scandic Edderkoppen, in addition to its eight meeting rooms, has a 600-seat theater. There are also two computers and a printer in the lobby. Child-friendly amenities include a kids' corner with a flat-screen TV, toys, and a PlayStation 3. Kids get free ice-cream and a gift bag on arrival, and kid-friendly menus are available in the restaurant, Leif Juster, which is named after the Norwegian actor. The free breakfast buffet, with organic produce, is served in the restaurant’s modern dining room, whose large windows face the street. Also in the lobby is the Spanish Fly bar and a snack shop with sundries and refreshments. The fitness center, with modern cardio equipment and weights, has a sauna. On-site parking is available in two garages for a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
