Bottom Line

The Three Fifty Hotel (on 350 S. Belardo Road) is an intimate and adorable boutique motel located less than a five-minute walk from downtown Palm Springs. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of its sister property (La Serena Villas) across the street, but it's an excellent choice for tourists who want breakfast, a pool, and bikes to borrow at a low rate. The 10 rooms are similarly decorated in a fun, bold style and most of them have kitchenettes. Each one is around the pool, which is great for taking a swim with the hotel's floating duck mascot, but less great for privacy -- you'll have to draw the curtains. A daily resort fee is another downer. For more features, bungalow-style rooms, and higher rates, the sister hotel, La Serena Villas, is one of the best in Palm Springs.

The Three Fifty Hotel

Scene

Renovated Mid-Century Modern boutique hotel originally built by Herbert W. Burns

The Three Fifty Hotel was originally built by celebrated architect Herbert W. Burns in the 1950s. In 2017, the 10-room property was renovated and updated, while still maintaining its original charm and lines. Each of the rooms is centered around the festive swimming pool, known for its enormous floating yellow duck. Other than a small reception office and a living room-style hangout room, there isn't any other public space at this small property. The small grounds are nicely landscaped with cacti, palm trees, and pops of lime green. Guests can walk across the street to use the spa and dine at El Azucar restaurant. The property is only for guests ages 21 and over, so no kids allowed. Past guests praise the hands-on management, who go above and beyond in providing helpful service -- like providing breakfast early for guests with early flights.

Location

Less than a five-minute walk from downtown Palm Springs

Set on busy-ish S Belardo Road, La Serena Villas has a convenient location for walking around downtown, just a three-minute walk from Palm Canyon Drive. The hotel is set in a partially residential and partially commercial neighborhood that's also home to a few other boutique hotels and a strip mall with a liquor mart. You can also join a walking tour of Mid-Century Modern architecture from downtown. Farther afield, it's about a 20-minute drive to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Joshua Tree National Park and Coachella grounds are about a 50-minute drive. Expect anywhere from two to four hours in the car to reach Los Angeles -- traffic can be heavy, especially in April around Coachella. It's only 10 minutes to Palm Springs International Airport.

Rooms

Spacious and vibrant rooms and suites centered around the pool

There are 10 rooms at Three Fifty Hotel, and each is pretty much identical in terms of decor and features. The biggest difference is that the suites have private bedrooms, spacious living rooms, and kitchenettes. Other categories simply feature one room and perhaps a nook with a mini-fridge and Keurig coffeemaker. Tile floors, wood ceilings, and lime green color accents look nice. Each room has Wi-Fi, a large flat-screen TV, and iron and ironing board. Bathrooms can be small, but include a pedestal sink and shower/tub combo, plus Lather toiletries. All rooms open up to the pool, which can pose a privacy problem but is also pretty convenient. Some of the rooms have outdoor tables and chairs for relaxing.

Features

Resort fee covers continental breakfast, bikes to borrow, parking, and Wi-Fi

The Three Fifty Hotel offers just a few features, due to the historic and boutique nature of the property -- but what's on offer is convenient and nice. The mandatory resort fee covers bikes to borrow, off-street parking (limited, though street parking is pretty plentiful) Wi-Fi, and a daily continental breakfast of granola, yogurt, fruit, and coffee. The swimming pool's sun deck provides plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas, plus desert landscaping and a whirlpool. The mountain views are especially breathtaking from the pool. Guests can also walk across the street to the chicer La Serena Villas and visit Whispers Spa and El Azucar restaurant.
